I think Elan also cannot fathom a world where his friend Vaarsuvius would do something to harm him.

This is my favorite so far. Usually, the author’s little asides feel like too much explanation, but this time, they were funny. I’ve read 371 strips in a little over a week, and it’s hard not to just read the whole way through and catch up with the rest of you. I’m gaining fast, though.
I love how Xykon takes nothing seriously. ‘Are you sure? Because I really thought “hate” was in there someplace.’ Awesome…
Edit: Holy cow… I just looked back in the thread to see how far I’d have to go back for strip #371, and it’s before page two.
Edit #2: Whoa. It’s before page one. This thread started a few strips beyond where I currently am.

A link to a non-current comic? I was really confused there for a second. Seeing her again was the mother of all plot twists.

Quite! Avoid spoilers if you can, there’s some awesome plottiness coming up - I’d avoid reading this thread at all if you want to get the full load.
Though I’m not sure there are lot of plot twists as such - more that he works through the implications of character really well.

598 is up. A nice way to wrap that up, I think.

Oh you can be quite sure he’ll be getting a full load whether he reads the thread or not.

Looks like Elan is moving more towards Lawful Good. Belkar isn’t the only person Roy has influenced.

Interesting point - I think Burlew does a neat job of showing how alignment plays out in character (“I have to do it now, I wrote it in pen. You’re lawful, you’ll understand”).
Doesn’t bard require a chaotic alignment, though?

That’s technically true; they can have any non-lawful alignment so neutral isn’t out of the question.
Yeah, Elan seems like a neutral good. He was almost going to go along with V’s plan until she was really mean. No idea where V fits in now. Chaotic good? Chaotic neutral? True neutral? Chaotic good in her head and borderline evil in reality?

Actually, he already told us he’s chaotic good.
Bullshit. Letting Kubota escape in order to give Therkla the best chance to survive is pure Chaotic Good. Lawful Good would be to let Therkla die and arrest Kubota.

Letting Therkla die to arrest Kubota would be Lawful Neutral. Which is, I believe, where Miya moved to and therefore lost her Paladin status.
Who’s your DM? Arresting Kubota is good. Saving Therkla is good. But which is most lawful and which one is most chaotic?
Dirt
1738
Arresting Kubota is the lawful thing to do. Saving Therkla is the good thing to do.
Good requires some degree of compassion. Whereas evil is the absence of compassion.
When Roy decided to save Elan inspite of himself, he was being more good than lawful. The law does not require anybody to save anybody.
Hey, where is your compassion for all the people Kubota would have killed if he hadn’t been stopped? The dude cavorts with demons and tries to kill pregnant women, for crying out loud. Why is one person’s life more important than the dozens of lives Kubota would surely have killed if he had gotten away?
And the part where Elan has EVER thought that deeply on something is…where?
