:) :) :)

Did I inadvertently drop a Monkey Island reference?

I came, but just a little.

You and Jenny both.

I’m guessing the odds would favor Roy slightly in a straight up, head-on fight. Roy has 13 pure fighter levels, Belkar has 11 ranger and 1 barbarian. So he’s got one level on Belkar and he’s a pure mele class.

I think that’s completely correct, given the assumption of a straight-up, head-on fight. The problem is the assumption that Belkar would even entertain the notion of a fair fight. He’d prey on Roy’s trustful nature and get at least a few really good cheap blows in.

Ah, but you’re discounting stats. Belkar used Charisma and Wisdom as dumps, while Roy is competent in both. This certainly ought to give Belkar an edge. Or are stats determined by dice outside of NWN?

When’s the last time they said what level they both were? Maybe Belkar will ding after annihilating the thieve’s guild. And what is BAB?

Biggest Asshole Bonus

Anyone else note the action with the cat in panels 12 through 15? It receives an order from Belkar and manages to hit two different characters. We know that the wizard is at the least a Wiz 3/Rogue 1 (Acid Arrow, Scorching Ray). We can also assume that the fighter is of similar level and has appropriate gear. So the cat must have a few levels, because Rich has stuck pretty faithfully to the whole AC thing, and because the cat managed to cause spell failure in a character that is at least level 4. Which I think means he hit it for more than a die roll + concentration got the wizzie.

I’m also pretty sure that that Belkar, despite being a mid level ranger, has never shown us an animal companion.

All of which leads me to believe that Mr. Scruffy is now his animal companion.

Base Attack Bonus. Basically, its a bonus a character recieves to overcome an opponents AC (Armor Class). It increases with class level with some classes (such as fighter) having a much higher BAB than others (like wizards). Also, every five levels of BAB grants another attack at -5.

Example, my level 7 fighter attacks a grue. He has a BAB of 7, so normally he’d attack twice at +7/+2. For each a attack a d20 is rolled and if the total is higher than AC an hit scored. Furthermore, BAB is modified by a stat, usually strength to get extra accuracy (but not more hits). Meanwhile, a level 7 wizard would only have a BAB of +3.

The Class and Level Geekery II thread estimates Roy to have a 20 str, 10 dex, and a 10 con, approximately. And Belkar to have a 13 str, 16 dex, 10 con. Doesn’t seem like too big a disparity in a melee fight.

But the point stands that Belkar probably wouldn’t go toe to toe with someone like Roy. We’ve seen him be a sneaky little bastard before, like in Azure city. Remember the pineapples.

Roy has to have a higher Con than 10. He’s able to go without sleep for days and days at a time.

It puts those as minimums with Belkar having used less points than Roy. Digging deeper into that thread, I came across this which is Rich explaining in painstaking detail how Miko could have singlehandedly beat the entire party. It’s like 8 paragraphs of explanation for a fight that isn’t even given a single panel. I didn’t realize he stuck to the rules of the world that closely.

I believe I read somewhere that Belkar killed and ate his animal companion long ago. Mr. Scruffy is definitely now his animal companion.

I said that pages and pages ago. :-)

New one is up.
