Out of the Park Baseball 19 - The quest for the Perfect Team

I’ll have look when I get home to see what Gehringer’s performance was like before this season. So far he is hitting .238 this year in diamond. My team overall is hitting very poorly in diamond this year after having one of the top team avgs last year.

I have Adrian Beltre. I am as happy as can be.

Haven’t had time this week to really check but I bought Machado on Monday and moved him to 3B in my silver league to replace Travis Shaw.

IOW 3B has been an issue.

I asked about this on discord and got the following responses:

“Justin turner was good till gold, I need a platoon bat for dick Allen, 3b who can hit righties”

“George Kell is pretty good, especially considering his price. Buddy Bell is a defensive stud with power too!”

“Ramirez is good at 3B”

“Im having decent luck with the 90 Frank baker. Destroys righty cant hit lefty”

I may look closer at Longoria’s numbers and see if maybe I just need to find him a platoon partner. I could stick Andrelton Simmons their but want to add a little more power to my lineup.

I am. I’m running the 1969 Mets, now in mid-July, right around the time of the moon landings. I agree with all your observations about UI annoyances. I also wish there were more hotkeys, and the customizable hotkeys that do exist seem to disappear on me.

Still, I like “regular” OOTP. Fictitious leagues are fun if time-consuming: I had a great time running a fictitious Star Wars vs Star Trek league a few years back. One league was all about small ball and speed: fastball specialists like Emperor Palpatine (greased lightning!) and fast baserunners like Yoda. The other league had a more ponderous style, with home run hitters like Jim Kirk and knuckleballers like Bones McCoy. It was great fun editing fictitious players to make them behave like sci-fi characters. But a ton of work too.

I’ve also enjoyed online leagues (particularly a historical league I did a couple years ago) and Perfect Team.

I’ve decided that I’ll build my two teams with opposing strategies.

The Expats drew Sale so they get to build through the card packs. I’ll buy a few individuals when I move leagues (especially moving to gold or above but that will be a while). The Ultimates will be built through “normal” pouring through the AH and careful purchasing. No random card packs at all.

The Ultimates should end up as the better team but the Expat idea allows me to keep them differentiated in my head. The couple of giants and many midgets versus the picked group of average guys.

My diamond team is hitting the ball now, but they aren’t generating a lot of runs. Luckily we have given up the fewest runs, and are sitting at 48-46 right now. My gold team is still struggling at 43-53 though there are a few teams below them. I need to beef up the starting rotation. We are going to give Top WAR Red Faber a shot and see what he can do.

I’m playing Miguel Andujar at 3b right now. His hitting and defense are both ok, but neither is good.

Another slightly-sub-.500 season in progress for the Argonauts. My offense is typically in the top 5, but my defensive efficiency is consistently 30th, which does not win championships.

How is the season shaping up for everyone? My diamond team is surprisingly on 1.5 games behind in the division and currently holding wc spot #2, but it is a close battle there as well. My gold team has also managed to plant themselves in the middle of the pack and are clear of relegation, but only a distant chance of a wild card. The division is effectively won already by someone. I’m in 2nd and 25+ games behind at 63-69.

My only team is currently in Gold330. We’re in 1st place at 85-47. My strategy of defense and pitching is doing really well this season. I’ve made a lot of changes to the team this season and so far, so good.

The story of my d360 team:

tex-d360

One of the best teams on runs allowed, and one of the worst on runs scored.

Edit: My pitching is on fire right now. 2 throw a maddux achievements in the last 2 weeks, and 2 corner painters by a 3rd pitcher who also nabbed pitcher of the month.

My team, in a silver league, is in 2nd place in the division, but no chance of catching the leader. I am in the top position for WC#1, but two teams are nipping at my heels. Still, unless we collapse, I’m hopeful of seeing postseason action and an not worried about relegation.

In the last two days I’ve purchased two standard card packs using points that accumulated, no dollars spent. Both packs allowed me to upgrade my bench and bullpen, so they were probably worth it.

But check out this post from a guy who hit the jackpot with a standard pack:

And here I am, buying 5 packs thinking I’d get something to fill one of my areas of need, and the best two cards I got were a 2018 Miggy, and a 70 silver. Currently sitting one game up in my division in S266 with two games left against the #2 who is 1 game back. I’m kind of hoping I can make the playoffs for the points but not get promoted because there’s no way this team is ready for Gold.

The Kraken are on pace for close to 100 wins, but find themselves 2 1/2 games back in the division. We basically have a wild card spot locked up though.

I believe the most teams to win 100 games in a season is 3, in my bronze league there is currently 5 on pace to win 100 and I’m on pace for like 98

With two weeks to go, my team (Librarians) still leading the WC race, but I’m nervous: any of these teams could get hot:

An unlucky season for the Argonauts—Seoul is in the second wildcard slot.

That’s not based on Levittown ny, is it?

Nope- the Pennsylvania version. Grew up there!
