Overwatch 2 - Rule 34 boogaloo

I know nothing about Overwatch 2, is it free to play?

Until (or if) the full PvE element is rolled out in 2023, OW2 is not a sequel. It is simply a smoke and mirrors swap to a much, much worse monetization scheme. The season pass is crap and skins are $19 to $30 each depending on how much crap you want “bundled”. The old skins are sold at this rate and the new skins are very “meh”.

Progression is gone in all but name.

Now, all of that said…

I really enjoy the game WHILE I AM PLAYING. The switch to 5v5 with one tank feels great. The game is now much more tactical and less trench (shield) warfare. The Halloween event is a surprisingly fun,
with a sort of story element that gets pretty tactical on the higher difficulties without being grindy.

Like many reviewers and streamers, I am in the “it’s a fun game to play, but the monetization is ass” camp. Basically when actually in a session playing, it is much better experience, but once out of a session and looking at progression or expanding one’s collection, it is a wasteland of a “service” experience.

It’s fun, but they are in crazy serious trouble long term. IMO.

The nu-Blizzard method, got it.

The Overwatch subreddit is a goldmine right now

Yes Overwatch 2 is F2P. Overwatch 1 was a paid game and was entirely replaced with OW2 it so you can no longer play it which leads to a lot of extra criticism because everyone was hard cutoff forced into the new format and monetization system even if they were happy with Overwatch 1 and had paid for it.

And then also, when they released OW2, it had massive technical problems and was unplayable for at least a week, despite being literally the same game which had worked perfectly at the beginning of the week.

As others have said though, despite them making stuff worse, the game itself is in fact fun to play, especially with friends.

Overwtach copied so much TF2 that they also copied the turn heel to F2P!

I didn’t play previous Junkerstein’s at the time. Right now there is the new mode “Bride” that is like a L4D level with movement, story, and bosses. There is a separate ”Revenge” mode that is one of or maybe a few old Junkerstein events that is just a single setting wave survival with modifiers.

A post on the Overwatch Reddit highlights the discrepancy between the two prices. The Overwatch Pachimari Jinx 3D Keychain is available on the Blizzard US gear shop for $5 USD, along with several other 3D options at the same price point including Mei’s companion Snowball, Reaper’s mask, and Bastion’s bird pal Ganymede. For comparison, the equivalent Pachimari charm in-game costs 700 Overwatch Coins, with 1000 coins retailing for $9.99 USD.

Finally, a post that’s on topic.

Played a couple of hours tonight and as others have said the core game is enjoyable. The balance feels difference to me than part 1 it’s hard to describe or pin point if it’s an improvement or not.

The thing I find strange is the queueing system. Why doesn’t the role queue work in a way everyone gets to play some of the roles? The waiting time for playing tank or damage is like 20 minutes while the time to play support is 1. This system they have now seem completely broken.

True, but that’s not new. Damage characters (which had Defense characters like Torb or Mei rolled into it quite a while ago) are always the hot choice. I generally dip in to play Open Queue, No Roles and never have to wait more than 20 seconds. Your experience is typical, I guess I’m saying, if you want to play a damage character then queue for No Roles and just grab it, usually the last one in will go tank or healer to make the team viable.

In Season 3, we’re bringing back Overwatch Credits, which had been previously shown as Legacy Credits and been unearnable in Overwatch 2. Now, all players can earn up to 1500 credits as free rewards and another 500 credits as premium rewards spread throughout Season 3 Battle Pass. We are also adding more uses for your Credits so you can choose from many potential rewards.

Specifically, we are making two related updates to our Hero Gallery. First, nearly all the epic and legendary-tier skins prior to Overwatch 2 launch will always be available in the hero gallery for purchase with either Overwatch Coins or Credits. This includes skins from the seasonal event modes, so now you can finally pick up Witch Mercy, Surf ‘N’ Splash Torbjörn, or Snowman Wrecking Ball any time of the year without waiting for the event to roll around! Second, we’re lowering the standard price of these legendary skins to 1500 Coins or Credits.

Taken together, these changes mean all players can earn a legendary skin of their choice each season from the Hero Gallery skins just for playing normally and without needing to make any purchases.

We understand that some players already have very large balances of Credits. To ensure that all players feel rewarded for the time they spend playing, we’re looking into additional ways for players to use Credits in the future.

They should put that quote on the box: It even beat ‘anal’ on Pornhub once!

. . . or maybe not:

Season 3 will have to deal with something that neither of the first two Seasons did: the lack of a new hero.

Yep yep yep. But as I read on, I think the original promise was a hero OR a map, and they did deliver a new map.

What the hell has happened to Blizzard lately?

I wonder if MS is secretly happy with the UK regulatory body, because imo $75B for Activision Blizzard is too much. Maybe it was a decent buy circa ~2018 but since then games like WoW or Overwatch have decreased in popularity, and even their CoD Battle Royale game seems to have lost the edge it had before.

Here’s the roadmap for upcoming seasons.

Any idea what questwatch / mischief & magic is?! I didn’t watch the stream did they explain that at all?

Season 6 looks cool though!

The game is pretty much over for me as a casual. The F2P format has no teeth at all for quitters, so every match now consists of an initial fight, and then half the losing team of that single fight leaving. I’ve had three separate matches stop due to lack of players in the last week, something that never happened once in the 1000+ hours I put into OW1.

I think they’re trying to make it pay off like Fortnite, and it’s not going to work.
