Overwatch - Blizzard's new IP

Just revealed at BlizzCon.

Guess what? It’s a “team-based multiplayer shooter”.

I loved the cinematic - had a very “The Incredibles” vibe to it. And a sniper with a grappling hook? Yes please.

Trailer:

So apparently Titan morphed into this (if kotaku article is correct).

I believe quite a bit of Titan material has been repurposed for this based on what was previously known of the cancelled MMO.

  1. This is Playable at BlizzCon now.
  2. Beta begins in 2015.

http://www.playoverwatch.com/ isn’t live yet, but it should be soon.

Clearly the world is in dire need of more of those.

Anyway, I like how they very likely blew more money on their trailer than other (non-free) multiplayers shooters had as their entire development budget, from start to finish.

Did they say if it was consoles or PC?

PC exclusive - for now.

Love the animation. Can’t say I’m excited about another team shooter.

Payload and Point Capture modes announced so far.

I just… I guess I’ve just seen too many of these MP F2P shooter games. It’s hard for me to get excited.

When is the first Blizzard animated movie coming out. I’ll be first in line.

Pixar-level animation in the cinematic.

The game, though, meh.

Gameplay

It’s TF.

Love the robot turret guy.

“That was awesome!!!” seemed like an exact quote from Dash in the exact same voice.

There was a lot of shooting going on in between pauses for dialog for there just to be 4 people in combat. What the hell were they shooting at all that time?

Video: good. Game: meh.

Reminds me of what Overstrike was meant to be like before it was retooled as Fuse.

Reminds me a lot of… Every MP team shooter with stylized graphics.

Yea, makes a lot of sense. They ditched the “job” stuff and PvE and are doing another competitive multiplayer game with the characters they developed for Titan.

Pretty much “yawn” for me, but that’s totally my personal preferences.

At least it looks good.

Woo. If I really don’t have to buy a client to play this, I’ll at least be trying it out. The environments look really cool.

You can rip some really nice tourny environments from a wider world created for freer play.

(Yes, I know this from direct experience ^^. No, still didn’t save that project)
