I need a good starter build for the new league and trying to find one on the forums is giving me a headache. I like lots of leveling instructions since I haven’t played in forever and I love fast clear speeds. I do have that scion thing unlocked if that matters.
FWIW I’m absolutely loving leveling this Ranger (to be a Raider) with dual wielding and using Frost Blades.
BF is gonna be my BFF tho.

I just plowed through the first 4 acts with a FNM build. It’s not exactly very defensive though and I’ll probably abandon it as soon as I farm enough currency for some kind of raider (tbd). You pretty much rely on dual curse (enfeeble + temp chains) later when mapping to keep you alive. Mines are also an acquired taste, they’re not for everyone. I love the playstyle but I know people who’d rather eat their keyboards than play traps/mines.

Sounds cool, but yeah, I am one of those people. I want to steamroll over mobs, not lure them over things. I watched the video and it’s not as bad as I feared, but the last time I played was with totems. Which was powerful but boring.
Blade Flurry? Melee focus sounds cool.
I heard on some stream that it’s based on the merciless ribbon quest. Anyone who has completed that quest starts at or near the end with all required quests completed, but side quests you still need to go back and do on each character. If you hadn’t yet completed the merciless ribbon spool quest you get put back at act 4.
That build sounds good to me. I’ve never tried Mines, so I’ll give it a try.
Sadly, I can’t get into the game. How do you get into the queue? It keeps telling me I disconnected from the instance when I try to start a game.
Edit: I’m in! I deleted the character and created a new one and that did the trick.
It’s really interesting they have had realm crashes. This is far from their first rodeo, so they should have good metrics on possible load associated with a new launch. They must have a tremendous amount of new players coming in, which is awesome.
I wasn’t really able to play much last night. When I went back to town from the beach, it crashed with the same error.
I decided to wait until this morning. But this morning there’s a patch, so it’s been “Checking Resources” for the last 15 minutes.
I got in and played about an hour last night got to level eight or so, decided I didn’t like my character and rolled a new one. It was sort of stupid because they’re both Templars and their skill trees aren’t that different but I wanted a different name!
For a league starter build I always try to find something that is fairly self-sufficient and a build that does not require any uniques to be decent. I’m going with a scorching ray Hierophant/Templar that can use righteous fire (eventually). So I’m rushing to Mind Over Matter, then Elemental Overload. I just got scorching ray and though it feels a bit weak I’m also using a firestorm spell totem. You also eventually add and orb of storms curse on hit set up to proc elemental equilibrium. Since scorching ray doesn’t hit (I think it instead gives a fire damage over time effect), the EE from the orb makes you do that much more damage. There’s a YouTube video describing it by ZiggyD if anyone is interested.
Also, so far harbingers are more annoying than anything else.
Gah, disconnected again when I reached the Fetid Pool. This is a pretty frustrating way to play the game. I should go play Diablo 3 and come back to this next weekend when things have settled down. Each new area fills me with dread. Will clicking on the exit here kick me out?
Yeah, this is unusual for PoE, they are normally rock solid, even around league launches. Oriath must be going nuts, which is excellent! Hopefully they get this sorted quickly.
Fwiw after the queue last night I played for hours and it was perfect.
I’ve played for a couple of hours this morning without any issues. I wonder if they’re having some ISP-specific problems? That’s happened with other games in the past, where some ISPs haven’t accounted for the high level of traffic that these kinds of games generate. That would account for some of us having no problems while others are seeing lots of disconnects.
That stinks; which server are you on? I haven’t had any troubles on Texas other than the full server crash a couple hours in.
I’m very glad now that I watched spoilers of the bosses. 1st Act 5 boss fight I knew exactly what he’d do, how to deal with it, and died 3 times anyway. If you haven’t spoiled yourself on the fights, I’d overlevel by maybe 2 levels, especially if you’re a caster so you gain some significant dps from another gem level. The fight did get a bit easier after I removed slower projectiles from my dps setup. Not easy, but I would have probably died a couple more times if I hadn’t.
One thing I forgot to mention earlier… I’m hearing a noticeable amount of clipping when they play audio, especially when people are talking. Anyone else encountering this?
Haven’t noticed it, but then I usually tend to mostly ignore the talking while reading the text, and cut it off as soon as I’m done.
Texas.
I have to admit, this is the first time I’ve had an easy time with a shadow character early on. I think they re-balanced the start of the game or something, to be easier maybe? Like I said, I haven’t made it to the Fetid Pool yet, but the medicine chest island was still touch and go against the ice guy.
My experience through act one was roughly equal to a moderately twinked character pre-3.0.
