Woah, 2 exalt drops in as many minutes!
Grats! I just got my first this league. Honestly don’t know what to spend it on. 6L chest maybe? The clearspeed from Carcass Jack is so crazy nuts tho.
Congrats! I got my first one yesterday, and spent it on a middling-roll Shavronne’s Wrappings. The really good ones are more expensive, sadly. Gonna try this low-life aura-tank Guardian out.
Loving the new league. All of the old content mixed in keeps things feeling fresh. I don’t have a firm handle yet on how to min/max the safehouses, but I haven’t dug in too deeply there.
Trying a totem build based on the guide linked above and having mixed feelings about it. Damage is OK through red maps, but not cheap to get there. Super squishy even with MoM, though, and I am not a huge fan of the need to constantly spam pots to clear curses. A self flagellation build would help with the latter, but I don’t know that it would help much with the former. It’s typical caster problems on that side of things.
Debating updating the arc traps build for 3.5, as I loved what EB and Tinkerskin did for being able to survive anything that wasn’t a one-hit-kill.
In other words, I’m in my normal state of mind at this point of a league. Enjoying myself but hugely indecisive about what build I should really be playing. :)
After waffling between the two builds I’ve been playing (Glacial Cascade Totems and the Cold Snap/Vortex stuff people have been talking about here) I finally decided to go with the totem build.
Still leveling my guy so I’m taking advantage of all the awesome gear in the guild stash (thank you all!).
Aside from Soul Mantle (which I can’t get for a few levels yet), is there any other “must have” for a totem build?
Also, I didn’t play the last few leagues so all this new stuff is somewhat bewildering - the bestiary, the azurite mining… on top of betrayal, it’s like the whole flipping game is new.
Hey, I killed some dumb Beyond (Invasion? IDK) boss that’s instagibbed me in the past! Yay for panic flasks and mashing the Flame Dash button! He’s very stabby, but “run the fuck away and let Vortex do its thing” is a thing of beauty.
I know I’ve said it before, but boy is this Cold Snap/Vortex thing the best build I’ve ever played by a mile. Super cheap, too - I’m sure there are other ways to play it, but the only items of note I’m using are Spine of the First Claimants (paid 15c) and Carcass Jack (something like 15c and another idk 100 jewelers and 50 fuses to get it up to 5L+1). Rime Gaze helm gives you a pseudo 5L for Vortex, and even a 4L for Cold Snap is plenty.
Absolutely cruising through late yellows. Shout out again to people dropping maps in the guild stash - I’ve been paying it forward as I go but getting my atlas completion for 6-8 more or less gifted to me was amazing. Could have afforded to buy the maps, for sure, but that saved an awful lot of trouble.
Glad the maps are helping! I’ve finished off everything up through tier 10 and am helping a friend get the last few he needs. I dunno if it’s just good RNG or if this league is dropping better or what, but I’ve had very little trouble getting maps thus far. Only had to buy one or two. Of course, now that I’m into reds I’m sure that will change.
My low-life/Dominating Blow/aura Guardian (from this build) has taken over from the Arc witch as my main toon this league. He was fine for leveling as a normal life build, but really came into his own once I got the right gear to switch over to low life. Wouldn’t want to run it as a league starter since the Shavronne’s is essential and costs about an exalt, but he’s a lot of fun now. And great for teaming, of course. If anyone sees me online and wants to run some stuff, lemme know!
Had some good mapping (and safehouse, and temple) fun today with @peacedog and @ReptileHouse. Great fun fellas! And if anyone else sees us online in the guild/friends lists and wants to join in, just send me a tell (“ineffablebob” should work no matter what toon I’m on).
Great fun, indeed. Thanks again for suggesting it. Filled in quite a bit of the Atlas along the way, too!
It was nice to see all those reds drop (t16s inclusive). Makes me feel like less of a mooch :P
@ReptileHouse are you using Loreweave or Tinkerskin on that trapper (or something else)?
Tinkerskin is my bet. It’s just too good to pass up as trapper.
Yep, Tinkerskin it is. @Bateau is right that it’s just amazing. The whole build is based around it and Eldritch Battery in a lot of ways. Arc traps is still very solid. Not as OP as it was back in Incursion (can’t realistically stack power charges and run dual Shimmeron, for example), but still very solid. That said, I haven’t tried Shaper yet this league, which will be the acid test for comparative purposes. Red Elder is slower than it used to be, but still not a problem.
Biggest challenge is the same as it ever was. It’s a low(ish) life build at around 5-5.5k, so being one-shot is always a possibility. Combine that with the fact that my middle aged reflexes make me suck at bullet-hell, and you can see the issue. ;)
Having you guys tanking and providing lots of great auras made things soooooo much smoother an experience than my solo runs. Good times.
I would think so too but it seems like everyone is running Loreweave with whatever, traps inclusive (I’m doing an arc trapper off of a Ziz guide and he recommends the same). I’ve got a Tinker, though, so I think I’m going to use it (next level, point of fact).
Although now I have the answer for sure.
I’ve been very pleased with the Jugg Cycloner and think I like it more than Slayer. I’ve got 6 endurance charges (1 from Kaom’s ring, 1 Ascendancy, 1 from tree) + endurance and that mitigates a lot. I have a non trivial armor total to help as well (although it’s obviously falling off up in high maps). I’m close to 6200 health with the Delve helm I was talking about. I’m not sure if it’s really better than Devoto’s for tankiness, but it sort of feels like maybe it’s a teency bit better (but I do miss the speed a little bit) . The goal is a Delve Elder helm with +#/+% life and - enemy fire resistance but I’m not ready to shell out just yet. Liking the trapper but not done with the cycloner. And I still haven’t actually gotten a good amulet on the guy (seriously, I’m using an amulet that basically isn’t contributing meaningfully to the build in any way as I’m now overcapped on the resists it provides).
Ziz plays hardcore where 80% resistance cap is worth A LOT. Plus, as @ReptileHouse mentioned, with Tinkerskin and shadow part of the tree in general you won’t hit high life numbers, especially if you go crit.
My current build and gear is here if it’s of interest: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/ReptileHouse/characters
Of note, I haven’t bothered to do a 6L tinker for Spire yet. That, a 6L gloves for Arc, and a 40% arc helm enchant would probably be the big gear upgrades.
Glad it’s helping out! This Guardian is the closest thing to a classic tank I’ve played in PoE. 81/81/83/30 resists, around 50 phys reduction after armor and other bonuses, 30ish evade chance, immune to freeze and stun, and 15-20 minions that all have a chance to taunt and blind. And of course a good chunk of that is auras so the party benefits, plus Hatred and Haste on the offensive side. Nothing is unkillable in this game, obviously, but he’s more sturdy than anything else I’ve played. DPS is only middling, but thus far he’s fine through Shaper Guardians.
Thanks again for the invite for red mapping. Helped break up the boredom of running white maps hoping to get a yellow drop. I am sure I think it every league, but my RNG this time really sucks and only seem to get low tier white maps.
My man. Just spend a few alchs buying what you need to get your atlas filled out. That atlas completion bonus really makes a difference.
504 hours of PoE streamed in a month, a Twitch record. I’m an addict, but strictly an amateur one. That guy’s a professional.
Thanks @Zephyr for a couple new guild stash tabs! We can always use more room to store our junk. :)
And as always, if anyone wants to join the QT3 guild, just lemme know.
