You don’t get credit for doing a map unless you use an orb of transmutation on white maps (turns it Magic), an alchemy orb on yellow maps (turns it Rare), and an alchemy + vaal orb on red maps (turns it Corrupted). That’s what the atlas says about the bonus objective when you hover over the map icons.

So I guess the answer is “yeah” :D

You can also use Cartographer Chisels to increase the quality of a map.

Also, when you run the map, you can juice it up by picking an extra mod from the list in the map device. Zana will slowly add more mods over time, and the first time you get one it will be free to use.

OK thanks @Charlatan That explains why I got credit for a couple of maps and not others although I have not intentionally altered any map other than taking the free essence upgrade once. I was not understanding the bonus objective part. Pretty sure I still have copies of the maps that did not give me credit, so I can transmute them and run again I assume?

I alch all of my maps, yeah. There are a few mods which make things harder or slower than I want to deal with and I’ll scour/alch those until I get something worth running. e.g., physical reflect means I have to resummon zombies and such, which means I’m slowed to a crawl. It’s more efficient to just re-roll. I’ll more than make of the cost of the orbs by running more maps more quickly. Same for no-regen.

Absolutely.

This is how it used to work, but it’s changed a little now. It’s still what you say but for the base color of the map, not the current color of the map. Basically, if a map first appears as white, then you get credit for running it with a transmute, even if the map you actually run is yellow or red. So don’t assume that all red maps need to be alched and vaaled, many may be upleveled and not require that much. Check the info on the atlas, it will tell you exactly.

Well dang, just when I figure out how things Work they go and change it!

Do you guys run the daily Master Missions while doing your maps?

It’s definitely beneficial to run the master missions. I save Zana missions for when I’m running Tier 5, 10, and 14+, preferably 15+ maps. That way the zones she opens for you can be +1 level from the top tier you have at the moment. Especially the T10+ as being able to get map bonus completion on the corrupted maps can be very nice. I feel I have terrible luck with corrupting maps, often getting the one mod I can’t run or having the map change base type when I really needed it not to.

Importantly, selecting a Zana mission resets her store, so make sure you buy any maps she has on offer that you need before picking a mission.
(edited for clarification that it’s the mission selection that resets the store, you don’t actually have to do the mission)

I run Jun whenever I have one as it takes forever to unlock all the recipes. Niko I generally ignore as I don’t delve much (which certainly slows my progression a bit). Alva, like Zana, I try to run with my highest tier maps as I feel like the temple gives pretty good drop rates. Even without a map room I get several maps in there and I want to maximize that chance of getting maps I need.

Einhar gets run whenever I’m not running something else. Sorry Einhar, you’re definitely the least important.

Thanks @Outlandish. Haven’t found Zana yet but I’ve only done about a half dozen maps so far.

She shows up when you find one of the citadels. So if you’d like to find her, focus on running maps in one of the regions on the atlas. Usually after 3-5 maps in the same region, you’ll find the citadel and Zana, which also gives you a shot at fighting the Conqueror in that region.

@Outlandish that’s a great suggestion on what maps to run when doing a Zana mission.

I usually forget to run a master mission unless it’s Nico because I’m concentrating on delving this league. But the other ones I only run now and then. I should do all of them more!

What unlocks red missions? I’ve got a ton of white missions, and a number of yellows, but no red ones. I read somewhere that missions show up based on the last map you run so I try to run a red map before I log off for the night, but there is something I’m missing.

I don’t know for sure, but I think it might be related to the last Zana mission you ran. If you find her in a red map and complete that mission, then you get red missions for daily. Or I could be completely wrong.

Right after saying I had not found Zana she appeared on my Volcano map. For some reason that map was brutal. Some kind of totems kept landing right next to me from out of nowhere and they were killing me in seconds if I did not move away from them. Eventually they stopped but I have no idea why. We really need a combat log!

Updated the maps in the guild stash again. Most of the tier 1-6 are in there, plus a chunk of 7-10s, and there’s quite a few uniques also. Use them!

It would be nice to have a better idea of what’s doing the damage, I agree. But it’s been years and many updates without one, so I’m not holding my breath. Maybe in the big 4.0 update next year.

Until then, your best bet to avoid that sort of thing is to have capped resists and more life. You’ll still hit the occasional map with insane mods that just kill you, but the more damage your can withstand the less often that will happen.

This is correct. The tier of the dailies is based on the tier of the last map you ran before the dailies were granted.

Also, the master levelling is PER-LEAGUE not PER-CHAR. I have made the mistake of playing a lvl 50 char in e.g. Hardcore, then starting a new Hardcore character and at lvl 20 taking a master mission, and immediately getting blasted to nothing because I didn’t notice it was a lvl 50 appropriate mission!

I did the same thing, thankfully not in hard-core, trying to use the bestiary to unlock a specific flask suffix on my level 20 guy. Turns out all the mobs that spawned were level 60. Oops!

In case anyone’s focusing on elemental damage with their minions, I just dropped one of these in the guild stash:

Got it from The Void divination card, of all things.

That is a nice pair of gloves! Interesting in all the build guides I’ve read I have never seen them mentioned as an option anywhere. Is that a new unique? I always need to look at it on paper to figure it out but those gloves seem too good to not use in a build somewhere! I suppose it’s because most minion builds focus on physical damage.

Also, I started getting red masters missions for some reason… I don’t know but I’m not going to question it.

One thing that I find frustrating about the new atlas layout is that when you have a map, it can be darn near impossible to see if you have completed the bonus objectives for it. You can type the name of the map into the atlas screen but if the map isn’t visible through having the correct watchstones installed, you won’t get any feedback. They need to add a way for you to see all the maps and their completion status.

I think Triad Grip has been around for a couple of leagues, but the physical-skeleton build is so much simpler to put together that it doesn’t get much attention. You can do some cool stuff with it, though. That chance to freeze/shock/ignite can make for some fireworks displays.

Amen. Even if you have a map tab, the maps won’t always show up if you don’t have the right stones socketed.
