You can script it pretty easily.

Something like this. Uses AutoHotKey to run the script. Personally I don’t like the script that tries to keep me alive on its own, but I do use AHK to have a quick logout, portal, and identify hotkey.

these types of things really feel like cheating to me, especially when competitive events are involved.

guess this just pushes me even further away from hardcore and races knowing that others have this type of advantage

The way I’ve always done it–for stuff like boss fights–is approach to just before the boss triggers, drop a portal, trigger the boss. Then, if I need to, I kite back to where the portal is. I don’t like using scripts really, partly because I’m easily confused and partly because I just don’t want to be that bothered by things.

It’s definitely a grey area.

The most I made was a TP clicker. It just seemed like a no brainer seeing how the option to use a scroll mid combat is there.

seems odd to have a hardcore game with instant logout as well

Sarah has finally made it up into Act 4 Cruel, and passed the first major hurdle of Kaom/Daresso. They were a lot easier than I’d anticipated. I did my best to make that happen, of course, but it still surprised me. Part of that is just an artifact of the summoner playstyle, since the minions have enough life/defense now to survive instead of being insta-whacked (like happened in Normal). But I have to wonder if some of the recent nerfs played a part, too.

I’m still very, very wary of facing Malachai. No matter how easy the earlier stuff feels, that’s going to be a royal pain.

Unfortunately to some of us, that’s also part of the design decisions/balancing, i.e. game balance takes into consideration the ability to instant logout.

Yeah, the counter to that is that you can die in less than 0,2 seconds (I shit you not, there are tons of gifs out there, and that’s not counting oneshots).

Generally in the last hour or so before bed I quit playing PoE so I don’t lose my HC character to stupidity. I’m enjoying it so much right now though that I think I’ll start a warbands character for sleepy play. And as I play quite a bit of HC I want to try something that doesn’t work there. I’ve actually never played a SC character in PoE though.

Anyone have a suggestion for a build that is fun to play, doesn’t cost too much currency as I’ll be broke, and is too fragile/risky to pull off consistently in HC?

Crit builds are good for that. Just ignore life/defence nodes (unless it becomes a serious survivability problem) and go hunting the skill tree for every crit node and use a nice AoE attack for screen wide slaughtering fun!

Ran the 90 minute solo race last night. This one was a bit more standard with no nasty tempests to start things off. My goal - simply to finish alive and pick up 3 reward points for hitting level 9-12.

SharaBrutioNinety finished at level 12, including the decision in the final few minutes to take on Brutus at level 11.

How the winner of the race (and plenty others) manage to achieve level 30, I’ll probably never know!

This only works up to maps. If you want to reach decent lvl (75+) then you pretty much have to meet HC mentality halfway. 160% life for life based builds is recommended even on sc, and that’s on top of some phys mitigation like EC, LC, armor stacking, AA or something else that works. QoL comes next, I couldn’t live without leech because I can’t be arsed to spam potions all the time (one of the major reasons I shelves my trapper).

and to me that just doesn’t seem fun. I want my aRPG just a tad slower than that

That’s hilarious!

Believe me, most of the hc community shares that view.

RIP Tempest Totem Witch. I died on the way to Dominus in Normal (is it a mark of a noob to die in Normal? If so there I am). I could never get a 4L with the right color combination for her totems so I was using a 3L. I even blew through about 30 chromatics trying to get the combo I wanted to no avail.

Pretty sad that I didn’t even die to a boss, it was those champion guys in the tower who spawn lightning balls all around you. I continued on to Dominus in the Standard league so I could see the fight. Died 2x more there, so I definitely will need to figure out that fight before I attempt it in Tempest.

The whole time I felt like getting her good drops was tough. As a byproduct of that, her resists weren’t maxed (only 38% lightning resist, that probably played a role in the death). The stuff I had was ok, but I swear, every boss I killed would drop oodles of evasion gear and nothing decent for casters.

I am not sure if I’m going to play the same build again. It’s a fun build but I dunno, maybe I want to mix it up. Maybe it’s time to roll out the summoner!

The key thing for me in playing HC is to accept death. Embrace it as a chance to try something different. If you obsess, it gets miserable. Of course, I end up having a long-term relationship with the Grim Reaper; we see each other a lot. So I end up in low acts a lot too. But I’ve actually never played a standard character in PoE. The only one I have is my first HC ranger who died at 44 I think. Never played her once she died.

In case you’re not aware, socket colors are influenced by item’s base type. Ie, a str only item has highest chance of rolling red, str/int is red/blue, dex is green and so on.

Ran the 40 minute Descent:Champions race this arvo (while bub was sleeping). The Descent races are fun - essentially a bottomless dungeon based on map tiles from throughout the game. Fixed chests placed at various intervals, like before you enter and many of the dungeon level transitions, which provide drops of items, currency and gems. No towns or vendors, so if a drop is no good, it stays on the ground. Descend hard and fast, see how far you can get. Increased drop rates add to the fun.

My Templar grabbed two uniques from the chests before entry and finished up at level 9 with a handful of very sketchy moments. Fun part of this is you are basically incented to throw currency at stuff to fill or improve slots. Some of the less common currency drops like (relative) candy (Regals)!

If you don’t like the idea of running races and just playing the early acts over and over, check out the Descent races instead.

Oh, and I won one of the random prize draws! Yay lottery!
