I don’t mind discussing bugs, but calling the game at its current state very buggy is a stretch IMO. I completed the game months ago without noticing any issues. I was one of the more bug free experiences I’ve had for a game of this size and complexity.
Looking at the number of bug reports on the steam forums is not a very good indicator of the current state of the game. Most bugs could be fixed by now and more popular games certainly will have more bug reports just because more people are playing it. It also doesn’t tell anything about the severity of the bugs.

I’ve played 150 hours, and haven’t had a single crash, or any bug that I noticed. I can’t make the controller work, but thats the beta and I am fine with waiting for that to be fixed.
So the giant patch coinciding with the console release dropped today. Thinking about restarting (I’m not very far, just hit level 3) now that I have at least some idea wtf I’m doing.
Whoa, there are a lot of classes now. Analysis paralysis! Might just get my rogue on without worrying too much about it.
Question for some of you lot: I went under the big tree and got absolutely chumped by centipedes that spit DEX-draining poison at me. Beat them after a couple reloads, but for sure have to bail out and find a priest because everyone’s rocking 10ish points of permanent DEX damage.
Did I miss something that would have dealt with that obnoxiousness, or did I plow through the main story a little aggressively, or do I just suck at this game?
Anyway, turn-based mode ahoy!

Lesser restoration spell. You can buy scrolls at oleg’s for it if you don’t have a cleric.
Like @Grunden mentioned, there are some options - potions and scrolls - but early in the game they are tough to have in a quantity that gets you through some of those tougher/early battles. Honestly, until I get a few levels under my belt at least, I like to have “remove afflictions on rest” and then camping clears up stuff like Blind and stat damage. It’s worth trying it rather than let the game’s mechanics frustrate you before things can really take off.

Yeah the game balance assumes you min/max. Certainly a challenging and higher difficulty levels.
This patch work with current saves or do you have to start over? I got my pally to around level 5 and stopped playing once I heard about this patch a few months back.
It works with current saves. I don’t think they’ve ever broken (unmodded) saves. I can still open a save from November 2018.

Delay Poison is actually Immunity to Poison.
You don’t really have much access to it early on, but for the record it basically nullifies all poison from everything once you do get it.
Until then lesser restoration or potions/scrolls of said spell heals ability damage (unless it’s a drain, because Pathfinder, but that doesn’t happen until much later and then other spells can heal drain, iirc).
Finally going to have a playthrough!
They say kineticisit and slayer are OP. I also vaguely remember that basically anyone benefits from some rogue or monk classes. I know people say it’s about min-maxing so maybe I’ll try endless dungeon for builds. I played the game previously up to Act 3 and whole Varnhold’s Lot so it’s not like I don’t know the game. But you hear a lot about the grand end-game bullshit dungeon.
Poisom/negative energy immunity will save you a lot of grief trying to get the stats back up.
Sneak attack damage is basically the king of this game if you want to do a difficulty above normal or make normal quite easy. Sneak damage is incredibly easy to inflict as it just requires two characters in melee with the target and then even shooting will set it off 100% of the time. Fortunately the game provides you with an excellently optimized assassin companion, and a pretty solid wizard/arcane trickster (to build a sneak attacking beam mage, which is probably the DPS king in turn based mode but not as great in real time because of animation timers) and ranger. The healer, fighter and barbarian companions are all acceptably built but definitely somewhat sub-optimal.
If you are min-maxing I’d probably just go some form of tank or healer just because the game has you pretty well covered in the dps department but a little more questionably elsewhere.

In the past year or two, has anything really changed in this game in terms of content? I played it about 1.3 times. Once with a mage type and another where I started a monk, but then lost interest about 1/3rd of the way through the 2nd run.
They’ve just added a turn-based mode and I’m not sure if you saw the endless dungeon. Beneath the Stolen Lands DLC.
Other than that I don’t think anything significant has changed.
I’ve been playing the turn-based mode through the beta. I’m very impressed. It can be enabled/disabled even if you are partially through a fight with a single click. Very convenient way to speed up battles that don’t matter.
Lower levels can be tough if you aren’t familiar with the system and don’t min/max. I’d lower the difficulty or pay close attention to the details in the combat log. Delay poisons, energy resist, and restoration scrolls, spells, or potions will be your friend.
For sure - the way I play is on the default (right below “core” rules) and I don’t let my party members die (whatever that option is) because the penalty to me for someone dropping is they aren’t available in the rest of that combat without expending a high level spell slot. Let them stand back up after the battle so I don’t have to reload constantly, I say. And I let maluses fall off during camping (I abstract that as, like healing, my healers are taking care of that stuff behind the scenes)
But since I’m not interested in a Figher with a 4 INT or other min/maxing bullshit, I play on that difficulty and most fight are 100% fine and I’m only passable at creating decent builds. :)
Every time there’s a new line of dialog, the game pauses for approx half a second as though it’s caching it, very slowly. It’s really annoying. Is this just me (another reason to start over with my Windows install), or has anyone else noticed this?
I have experienced no such thing.
The Enhanced Edition (v2.0) added a bit. New enemies, areas, loot, spells. Quests were tweaked. A definite improvement.
No, it’s just assumed knowledge from the game’s side. Like others have said, lesser restoration will clear it out, and things that lesser restoration fixes tends also to be fixed by resting/time passing.
(Later on you will get hit by other poisons that seem to be functionally the same, but will require restoration or greater restoration to heal and resting will do nothing to - even though the icons are identical. It’s a game made for pathfinder players and rules nerds.)
