There’s a reason 5e is lauded by almost everyone as superior to 3.5 (which Pathfinder is heavily based upon).
Almost is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
5e is fiiiine. It’s streamlined and many things are simplified. My issue is it’s influence on encounter design and how it always feels too easy.
I think Pathfinder owes it’s existance to D&D 4e sucking so hard, people just wanted to continue playing D&D 3.5e.
My gaming group agrees that 4e never happened. There was some weird, shared fever dream/nightmare and WoTC decided to just name the next edition 5e to make sure people wouldn’t worry that nightmare was coming true.
I switched over to PF2e a few years ago.
So far, as a GM, I like that everything is spelled out and that Paizo did a good job of creating a high floor. Everything works.
Yeah dude. I went from D&D 3.5 to 4e, which was a terrible system, to Pathfinder, which cranked the complexity up to 11. A lot of people love that. I’ve never been a guy who plans and optimizes builds so such a complex system is overwhelming, irritating, and a horrendous slog to play.
We’d run entire game sessions that were just one combat, and that was pretty normal for Pathfinder. You’d take your turn and wait 30 minutes for the next round of to take your next turn. It’s too much when you can only play twice a month if you’re lucky.
Anyway the video game abstracts a lot of that away and which is nice and makes Pathfinder much more playable.
Pathfinder is just the continuation of D&D 3.5 though.
So you went from D&D 3.5 to 4e back to Pathfinder cough I mean D&D 3.5 in everything but name!
Hey, PF1e brought in some streamlining of stuff, like polymorph and grapple.
But yes, it is 3.75.
I have to try that new Witch archetype. Powerful cantrips on demand? Yes please!
Feels like they are borrowing ideas from PF2e with both the Fighter and the Witch.
Shield Block and Scaling Cantrips? Nice.
So, if anyone is interested, PF2e has a Kickstarter for a new game.
I feel like the system will work very well on the PC, but only time will tel…
Since you are being stingy with links, here is the link to the kickstarter.
It looks more like a miniature game, than a full-fledged rpg? Maybe its their take on a VTT?
edit: Apparently not - according to Aaron Shanks, its a " This is, in fact, a single-player, turn-based, CRPG Pathfinder Second Edition video game.".
