Patreon and Q23 switching away from vBulletin

This will change, right? I changed my email here last week, and I no longer have access to the old one (it was really old). The new site does not recognize my new email.

Yes, because the real migration will use a new snapshot of the forum database. What’s important is that Tom publishes a firm deadline to ensure emails are valid.

Not all my PMs made it over. Some old ones I had deleted were resurrected.

I second this. Please remove the 10 character requirement. I have passwords for non-financial / non-identifying sites that allow me to browse/read without having to remember.

Also - Discourse does not remember where I’m at in a thread. I’d like to propose that for the migration, it assumes I’m all caught up and put me at the end of the the thread.

I have an account on the first Qt3 discourse test server. But that one doesn’t seem to work on the new discourse server, and neither does my Qt3 username and pw, and I don’t see how to create an account there. Sorry to be dense, but I’d appreciate a pointer.

Try to log-in to the second test site with your live Qt3 email address, then reset your password.

That’s the problem- the second site doesn’t have my email address registered, how do I do that?

You can’t.

Make sure your email address is correct on the live site now, so when we migrate for real you won’t have that problem.

There is no connection whatsoever between forum.qt3.us and either the current “live” forum (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk) or the migration test that Wumpus just announced recently, at http://q23.ajalan.info/

Here’s what you need to do…

** On THIS site – right here, right now – make sure that the email address associated with your username is valid.

IF it was valid 4-5 days ago, when Wumpus started the test migration to http://q23.ajalan.info/, then you will be able to go to that site and log in with that email address, requesting a new password. Passwords ARE NOT MIGRATED to the new site.

If you fix your email address on THIS site, then when the real migration happens, you will be able to log into your account on the new site.

I’m guessing that, if it’s not just a glitch, it’s because my QT3 username has a space in it.

You can log in with your username (if it has spaces, use underscore where the spaces were) OR your email address, but the email address must be valid and functioning to work. Remember this data is 7 days old so it may not have your correct email address yet. Most important thing: MAKE SURE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HERE IS CORRECT! Check it now and set it!

Looks like a bug based on the markup to me, so we will fix.

spoilers

We’ll fix this for sure. Easy one.

Multi-paragraph quote blocks are being completely mangled

This looks like a bug, too. Will fix. I thought it was nested quotes, but it wasn’t.

Keep the feedback coming, it is extremely helpful to have links to both the old and new “versions” to compare so if you find new examples of stuff that isn’t right and I did not list above, please do post it!

I’m not sure the last read points are correct. Seems like it’s defaulting to my last post, maybe?

I skimmed through one thread from start to finish, saw the following issues:

Lists not getting translated at all:

http://q23.ajalan.info/t/offworld-trading-company-from-mohawk-games/74837/895

Vs.

Other tags nested inside a URL tag being misinterpreted:

http://q23.ajalan.info/t/offworld-trading-company-from-mohawk-games/74837?u=jsnell

(Or a more compelling, example:

No idea of what’s going on here, the URL tags look completely vanilla. The only thing is that there’s two of them on the same row, but that seems like it’d be pretty common. (Is the converter maybe a bunch of regular expressions rather than a proper parser?)

http://q23.ajalan.info/t/offworld-trading-company-from-mohawk-games/74837/161?u=jsnell

Smilies are getting autoconverted to emoticons. This should probably not be done, since it seemed that the consensus with the test site was to disable the emoticons. (It also looks really odd when there’s a mixture of converted and unconverted smilies).

http://q23.ajalan.info/t/offworld-trading-company-from-mohawk-games/74837/297?u=jsnell

Blockquotes appear out of nowhere (probably because the meaningless whitespace at the start of a row is being preserved, and then Markdown semantics get applied to that whitespace).

http://q23.ajalan.info/t/offworld-trading-company-from-mohawk-games/74837/312?u=jsnell

Asterisks and dashes at start of row get converted to list items. But that’s not how they’re being used. Instead it’s things like:

Footnotes:

Start of a signature:

(Note that this only happens to the original post, not if the exact same content gets quoted: http://q23.ajalan.info/t/offworld-trading-company-from-mohawk-games/74837/879?u=jsnell )
.

URLs that used to be auto-linkified showing up as just normal text:

I am having tremendous fun reading the old topics. It’s 2005 all over again!!

Great job, jsnell!

So I notice in the movie podcast link thread some of the links didn’t make it over unscathed. I suspect maybe I should have had two links on the same line separated by only a -. Here is the link to the active forum thread and here is the link to the test migration forum.

It’s not like it would be hard for me to cut and paste to correct it, but I just thought I would mention it.

That’s the “two URLs on the same line are inexplicably not linked” bug which has been reported several times now, so I think we’re good on that one ;)

I like that my joined date is preserved. But looks like post count is not a thing?

And no bozo filter?

Post count is displayed in your account summary, fwiw.

Hmm, thanks Scott. I was looking at the account card, which shows the joined date, but not the full fledge account summary. And now that you have mentioned it, yeah, it’s there! <3
