Whelp, time to go back to vBulletin; at least they know how to logo.

The best part is that the old Pepsi redesign that’s being used as a “good” example is the canonical example of branding bullshit, due to somebody leaking the pitch:
It’s just an amazing document.
You are not wrong there. Wowsers… When you consider how much someone got paid for that…

Is that… is that for real?
Wow, it’s… something
Bet they never even noticed the error in the bottom right two faces because it’s so stupid no one even really figured out what they were actually trying to get at with this… whatever this is.
I can only imagine the presentation was given in this mode:

So basically the pepsi logo is inspired by the trollface smiley?
I would have fired right on the first page. Golden ratio our corporate DNA into the future?
What’s hilarious is the BS worked.
jsnell, I don’t know how I have never seen that document, but it is glorious and disturbing and it has made my day. I have a folder in my bookmarks, one that I don’t use very often, called Cultural Nadir. It think that is exactly where I will put it.
As for the Patreon logo, I’ll paste what I wrote at Brand New:
I hated the old orange branding, and would have been embarrassed to plaster that old logo all over my website or YouTube channel.
But this redesign is painfully dull. If the logo doesn’t put you to sleep, just look at their new website. Jesus. I didn’t think it would be possible, but I’m missing the orange.
Patron is a living for some people. For that reason I do respect the effort to turn the brand into something less garish, more robust, steady, perhaps even corporate. But they went too far. Even Paypal is more playful than this. This brand is the walking dead.
I do like that the logo looks like a coin going into a slot. But if you try to read it as a P it looks quite ugly.
While it was not hugely attractive, I liked the old Patreon logo. It was distinctive, simple, and instantly recognizable.
Same with the old Pepsi logo.
Of all the logos in all the world, those are among the ones that did not need any modification whatsoever in my book.

So is the icon in the upper left changing to reflect this hideous new logo?

That’s the spirit. Stick to your aesthetic guns.
Maybe it would actually look OKish as white on the Qt3 header background. Technically it would go against their logo recommendations, but I don’t think they’d pursue it. And certainly I’m fine with the new word mark. which you can also see on that “brand guidelines” page I linked.
I agree, the wordmark looks great. Not enough to stir me off my lazy arse to change it, but still.
Don’t know if this is the place to put this, but the forum seems to be requiring me to re-log in every few days lately. Any ideas?

Or maybe using some invisible mode / private mode. I think is very easy in iphone to accidentally enable it and theres poor feedback that is enabled so you may continue browsing that way and is not apparent, except the browser have short memory.
