The next XBOX has a simple case to make. Show customers that the value of an always online system trumps the downside of not being able to use your system during a network outage (on either end). However, it has to be real value; not Sim-value (trademark EA 2013).
These are not stupid people, they should be able to learn from the mistakes and successes of those who have already been there. Steam's evolution is a good learning case. I can play steam in offline mode, but I only do so if I have to.

Hmm, if this is the case, how is this different from Xbox 360? Microsoft needs to pay attention to what's going on and learn that the term 'always on(line)' is becoming reviled within the gaming community and just freaks people out, as it implies little to no functionality when an internet connection is unavailable. Which is totally unacceptable.
And the downside of the entire system's library being lost to posterity.
Frankly, it can't be done. And I certainly won't be buying Code Name Durango.
