It was “dual ownership” from the start. As it happens, there’s a lot more Goons than QT3 people and they’ve been far more active so it’s fair enough if they want to go and do something somewhere else as being a Pirate does involve missing out on a lot of stuff.

Plus once you reach critical mass of Goons it becomes “hey let’s piss off the pubbies” :(

I had originally created it for both. I knew that MMORPG players tend to be a fickle bunch, and as this was both a niche game and one that was not gaining a lot of early kudos, that the player base would be small. Since pvp and raiding tended to be such a key aspect of the game, numbers were important, like Shadowbane, so I tried incorporating players from both sites into our guild. While I was there, everyone was playing nicely together and I had early on been promoting EVERYONE, regardless of Qt3 or goon into the top rank so that they could continue to invite from their respective site.

If it ends up being a failed experiment, then I humbly apologize, but I certainly saw no sign of that during my stay.

Vangardia is on Bonny.

Senor Mandrake is going to be leading a fleet secretly assembled against the English heretics. Our French brothers inspire terror on the open seas - I rarely see British in the open seas lately. When they do, they only sail in large squadrons in ships of the line. The French sail alone and patrol the lesser Antilles zealously.

It may be difficult, but I think we are going to reach a critical mass and morale to stand up and deliver some fear to the British. We’ll see what happens tonight in Puerto de Principe.

Be Almirante Diaz’s fleet an’ I ain’t no leader. They keeps me about on account o’ me sparklin’ wit an’ splendid hygene. Them Vanguardia do be a good lot - fer Dons an’ Papists though, mark me.

Not too keen on the idea of deleting my level 15 pirate. Damn shame you’re stuck with one nationality only.

Some observations and notes.

Dinged 19 last night and picked up the Xebec you can capture at 19. Had a quick fight in it, lots of fun and very zippy but not something I’ll probably keep.

Did a complete respec too. After talking with my society-mates I took all of the Survival line and I’ve now got all of the Sacrifice line too (Brutality? I think it’s called?). End result is I am quite tough with those nice free repairs and the 30-second-invuln (“To Young to Die”) is a real life saver I’ve heard.

I also like Sacrifice skills, mostly for the final one which gives 10%-20% bonuses to just about everything. Very popular piratey skill that. And even without that particular skill the sacrifice for speed is quite handy as well.

Next to pick up is the line that goes up to rum ration. It’s got all the damage-other-damage-self skills and provides the “spike” damage the big fights love.

Respecced my Swashbuckling. Still a Dirty Fighter but picked up all of the swordsmanship line again and this time READ THE DESCRIPTIONS CLOSELY! One of them is an automatic bleed, the other is a +extra damage and a % bleed chance. DUH! I was just using the later for a long time, but when you poke them with the auto-bleed early you can move on to another target as they’ll be dead and only use the second skill once you’ve got a bleed “stuck”.

I’m trying to increase my “offence” stat in the DF line, as that’s the way to go apparently, but I’ll be damned if I can find skills which add offence. I took 2 gunnery and 1 flashpowder as well, as the stun is handy when mobbed by NPCs and gunnery is great in port battles I hear.

Having fun with this one. Enjoy clearing through the missions which are generally pretty well put together, varied and well thought out. Well done FLS for that alone. Much more amusing that quests in WOW in general I’m finding.

Are there any QT3 pirates left, playing regularly? I’ve had every name in the first five or ten pages on my friends list, on Bonny, and I haven’t seen a soul from QT3 while levelling up to 20. Not once. If there are people still going, who’s left? I’m currently trying to recover from disaster of accidentally buying a third (or fourth?) warehouse when I hadn’t intended to, losing all 15k of my gold. That one is pretty heartbreaking, when there’s no way to get the cash back. :/

I’m still playing, although not regularly, since this PC doesn’t handle the game well at all. Once my new PC arrives, I’ll be playing more regularly. As it stands, I’m currently holding at lvl 10.

Losing you community sucks, I’ve been burnt on Qt3 guilds before ;)

Much as I <3 you all, I like to get estalished with a group of real die-hards and then invite Qt3’ers to it instead. Worked nicely in EVE Online. Van Diemen’s Demise on Antigua is growing into a nice, strong Pirate society with great Aus and pretty good US presence. They’ve been active in the economy and especially PVP and are a respected force. Pretty helpfull and friendly too. If anyone is tired of Bonny or other servers, come say hi!

Like quatoria, I’d like to know who’s still playing on Bonny and who’s not. If our numbers are extremely small, I’ll likely start another character on another server that has a Qt3 presence.

I am still subscribed with a level 15 on Bonny, but I have not played in a few weeks for various reasons.

Obviously I’m still around. Last night the pirates managed to win a port battle against Spain. I just missed the invite by a few minutes. Dang it. Well, since we lost I guess that’s okay!

However, feeling bouyed by that victory the pirates decided to throw Havana into contention. Now Havana’s not just Random Port X. Havana’s the big deep water port most folks use and everyone and his brother has facilities there. So when dissent started climbing all of Spain took notice, PvPers, PvEers and, if they could have I’m sure the AI EvEers, would have been there. The pirates ground NPCs, dumped contention bundles and did everything they could think of. There were at least a dozen battles going on at any one time within 50 miles of the port.

But, just as in real life, Spain may not be the best fighters in the game but we are the richest bastards. People had been stocking up contention bundles and assorted minor resources. Folks of all levels swarmed in to do the patrol missions or to just take out passing pirate NPC ships.

Eventually the pirates, the scores swarming about, gave up the ghost. By the time I hung it up around 2:00 AM EST there were maybe six pirates still in the fight. A couple Spanish Freetraders lingering around the garrison commander managed to keep them in check with contention drops alone.

I tell you what, the pirates were seen as some of the worst port battlers and it really was a serious blow to Spain’s pride to lose a port battle to them (and the tactics used, according to reports, were foolish - we may need to do some serious rethinking about things) but thank you Brethren leadership for the brilliant idea of attacking one of the few ports all of Spain has a toe in. Brought us together and gave us a victory in the end.

Played a bit on Bonny last night but no one was on. It’s kind of a bummer. Not sure what to do, could leave for Antigua I guess and maybe reroll on Bonny for a Spainard and relegate ol’ Cliff to Davy Beefpile’s Locker.

Received word this morning that a part for my new PC is on backorder until 3/24. Ugh. One delay after another and design issues nearly have me convinced to cancel my order, and go with another company.

That was the frustrating thing about the Pirates as a whole on Bonny – those who were actively involved in PvP were mostly just plain stupid and scatterbrained to boot. Havana indeed. :-/

I’m surprised they actually won a port battle at all.

I think there’s some new blood. Crimson Blades. Not one of the names I recognised from the start. They managed to steal some French SoLs last week. This week they’re leading the pirates to victory in a port battle. Could be they’re becoming a real faction. Just wish they’d turn all that restless energy against Britain. It’s just growing exponentially. They’ve got more players in their biggest Society than the population of either France or Spain.

That’s a large part of what I meant by stupid. They’re quite happy handing the game to the British. It can be difficult for the Pirates to really get at the Brits, but nonetheless.

Well, the guy who posted in the Bonny forums seemed to imply that they were taking on easier targets as “practice” and the British were really the end game for them.

Oh? That’d sure be a change… Perhaps what I’d seen earlier was just a selection bias, stemming from the loudest and quickest leveling pirates running the show. Hopefully this new crew is not just more organized, but more civil as well.

Are port battles still on a 48 hour delay?

We were kicking ass at Havana, until a flotilla of six French 50’s in fourth rate SOL’s came and handed us our ass. In principle, I agree that we should all be allying to take down the British, but since we’re in second place right now, the french and spanish seem more interested in fighting us.
