Hey. I killed Ditka too! As a great man* once asked, “Where the hell’s mah money?!”

*Mojo Nixon

Never mind manoeuvres, always go straight at ‘em!

Hah, nice one! I was just chatting to Ditka about Pirate Plans the other day (it turns out the Pirates do have a plan, of sorts). It’s always nice to nail one of the opposing factions leaders, especially up close and personal!

Brian, I’m curious, what sort of build do you use Dirty Fighting? I’m rather surprised that you bested him so handily, as Dirty Fighting looks like the least effective style to me…

pulls up a chair

I’m curious too, mostly because I have trouble keeping my balance up. The instant balance restore from fencing was a life-saver when I was experimenting with my first toon. But a pirate fencing just ain’t right!

Enlighten me as to your DF uberness! I need some help too!

Guys…roll Spanish and join the good fight. Then I’ll bring you into Uncle Grim’s Dojo. :D

Edit: I will say I’m not sure how well this will work against other fighting styles and I’m not sure it’s working because I really understand what I’m doing. There seem to be several, contrary, ideas out there about how AvCom works. I just built a theory, mainly for PvE, and it seems to work in PvP too. At least in those two instances with Ditka. That’s not exactly a statistically significant sample size.

Sadly, I may not get to test it again soon because nobody will board me now. sniff

Hey, don’t be a poofter - I’m not even on the same server! :p

You can tell us. I’m curious to see what people come up with with DF. I mostly muddle along…

Which nation are you guys on Antigua?

— Alan

Oh, well, “us” I mean me and Krazy, who play on Antigua as our main :)

All are pirates on Antigua.

[Edit]: Bonny Pirate has a lot more Quarter to Three people, if that’s what you’re looking for.

Wow, who knew that being on a different side in a MMO outranked being QT3 brethren? You really have turned into a PVP asshole. :P BTW, Brian, was Vagabond’s Rest the name of your SWG city? I seem to remember hearing that name in your SWG threads at one point. If so, I’m now in a society with the founders.

Yeah, I think one of them (Davyn/Jythri) went pirate but I don’t think he plays anymore. One of the others (Tychus) is in Vanguardia as are a couple other folks from there (and here too, by the way I am looking out for the interests of those Qt3ers). There may be others that have failed to report in to me! Obligatory j/k.

You should check out laughinglion.org. That’s who I’m with - the Glastonbury society.

Oh, Stash and those guys. Yeah. They weren’t founders but they came in shortly after launch. Good dudes. I run into Stash every so often.

Hah, that’s not the way Wulf tells it. What name would they know you by from SWG, btw? I mentioned my horrible traitor friend who abandoned the noble Pirates to join the dastardly Spanish, but didn’t mention that he’s you.

I don’t know Wulf. Maybe he is one of the founders under a different name. Stash and the Glastons rolled in after launch though. The original founders started up VR in an AO forum as they were brainstorming what to do with SWG a year or more before it actually came out. They decided the settings were similiar enough that with some fudging of details they could use the same characters and backstories but turn themselves into colonists fleeing the strife of some industrial planet in the Corporate Authority Sector (or something like that).

They spent months RPing themselves in that forum as the ship, Vagabond, made its voyage. By the time beta started they were a very cohesive bunch. The leader, Davyn, got involved on an early pre-release roleplaying community site, swg-rp.com (no longer active), and started spinning his idea of a multi-PA (guild) player city to create a kind of Casablanca where all kinds could coexist in an unease peace. That’s where I ran across them. Other PAs were lured into participating as well.

It’s possible the Glastons were a part of this but I seem to recall them coming in as part of an RP plot much later on after we’d already put a makeshift colony together on Rori but before it was the huge city it became later on Naboo. A pirate raid. In the aftermath a settlement was somehow reached where the pirates settled in and we were left alone. Grim got into a shootout with them before things were smoothed over. Very good RPers - the ones active in SWG at least. I don’t know if the whole guild RPs or not.

I wasn’t one of the very early AO colonists but I was involved before beta, helped survey possible colony sites during beta, and stuck through to what I consider the end as the last Founder standing. “Founder” became a title, like alderman, eventually and I was eventually selected to fill an empty slot.

In SWG, I was Mandash Grim. This character is, in fact, a cheap and easy cut-n-paste job for the most part. When I was developing Grim I was envisioning Sean Connery and tried to replicate his accent and manner of speech. What people actually saw, evidently, was “pirate speak”. So he became known as an old pirate. “Privateer! I was a licenced privateer, lass!” Now, when I started PoTBS I had no idea if I’d like it or not so I just rolled Mandrake Grim up and let him go if with an explicitly piratical lilt. Working on a genuine Spanish alt now. A dashing swashbuckler of Morisco heritage.

Yeah, the whole guild RP’s. They describe themselves as a casual guild of roleplayers who PVP. They’re not nazis about it - no “main channel is IC 24/7” rules, or anything, but most of the time we stay in character when we’re looking for Spainards to sink. It’s a nice, easygoing bunch of folks. I’ll ask Wulf when he actually got involved with VR, if you like, or alternately, what name you might know him as.

He could have been the original leader of the Glastons but I just don’t remember anyone with that name. Stash is the first leader of the Glastons I remember.

Hard to tell these days :)

— Alan

Well, theoretically.
