Do AI ships ever try to board players? I’ve never seen it happen, so I’m curious if it ever does.

Hey, I’m not sure who is still playing this, but I’ve been meaning to give it a try for a while. However I don’t want to purchase it without trying.
I’ve been waiting for a demo and I see now that there is a buddy program where paid subsribers can give out 14 day passes. I was wondering if there is anyone here who might have an extra key? I may have missed the boat here (haha), but if there are extras floating around, it would be much appreciated.

On a related note, this is one of the very few games my wife saw a shot of and had a positive reaction. She thought the ocean and ships looked “cool,” which is quite different from her usual disdain for all things game-related.
Hey mk56, I’m pretty sure I have some buddy keys - I’ll look into it and pm you.
My wife and I are still playing on Antigua as pirates, although not every night due to workload. There appears to be a population problem on some servers - FLS admitted they overestimated demand, and are essentially looking at a server merge of some kind this month. This can only be a good thing, to bring the dedicated players together so we can have some decent port battles again. There’s also a pirate balancing patch coming out in 1.4 which will do great things for the pirate nation (serious underdogs in any port battle, with little reward at present) but whether it all comes too late is another matter. At its present state I see PotBS settling on a dedicated core of players, because it’s a great game that’s not quite perfect but those still playing are willing to ride it out.
Whatever you do, don’t roll a British Navel Officer! Way too many of those already. And yes, my wife also loves this game. She hates magic / swords and sorcery fantasy crap.
[edit] pm with buddy key sent.

Thank you krazykrok!
I wish they would release a regular demo tho, these buddy programs always seem a bit silly to me.
I’m not sure what class I want to try, though I don’t think I want to be a pirate, at least not to start off. The merchant seems interesting, but I don’t know anything about the economy. Server mergers already doesn’t sound very promising, but hopefully it will be for the better.
As for my wife, well, she thought the screen shot looked nice, but there is no way she’ll play this, or anything for that matter. Ah well.
Thanks again.

Here’s a Wiki that covers quite a few different aspects of the game including careers and the economy.
Ok, FLS have now implemented character transfers between servers. Transfers can be made to Roberts, Blackbeard, Rackham and Antigua so it looks like Bonny and others are in for the chop eventually. So now you have no excuse, come and join us on Antigua!
Actually I’m taking a break from the game for about a month (work trip) so it’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out when I get back.

Yeah, apparently they are closing 7 out of the 11 servers. That doesn’t sound good.
I think it’s a good decision though - they really had too many servers to start with, and the late-game in particular suffers without a reasonable population. I just hope it’s not too late.
Hmm… I got out as I just wasn’t playing very much before that, if at all. Too many other things going on. I guess I can move to Antigua though and get prepped for another run in a few weeks.

anyone have a buddy key they could pass along to me?
Thanks
Chris
I’m looking forward to the merger. All of France on Morgan is moving to one server. We’re still not sure. The best parts are the port battles and PvP that are unfortunately hard to participate in unless you have a good group of active players.
The merger should help the economy a great deal because without a lot of player interaction (sinking ships), and a lot of buyers, it can get pretty slow which really ruins the fun of the econ aspect.
I picked up and moved to Antigua, although my playing time has relaxed. I’m not so sure it’ll help the economy, as there’ll be more sellers as well; I suspect prices will lower because of increased competition, and thus goods priced low will move faster, but whether profit will go up or down I’m curious to see.
My main reason for being happy is that it was obvious from day 1 they chose too many servers, and I’m hoping that more density means an increase in PvP action, with an increased chance to find some action at all hours. So far the game has been quite fun when it works, but that has been relatively infrequently… I’m hoping it’ll work more reliably now, and so resubscribed one more time.
Hugh Swift (Pirate 10) transferred from Bonny to Antigua and renamed Snappy Dan. R.I.P., Bonny…until such time (if there comes a time) that they need you, again.
Going from 10 to 3 servers? Ouch. That seems unfair considering the game is actually pretty fun, and original too. Damn. poor old FLS.

How are they handling people with accounts on multiple servers in multiple factions? Are they losing that restriction?
Down to 4 actually (though that’s basically the same). I suspect they might be over compensating a bit this time, but we’ll see. I’d certainly rather see a bit of overcrowding than the thin populations I was seeing before, as they really make the game break down, and will mean a swift death. Already my trade volume has skyrocketed, and just judging from National chat there is much more action, although I’ve only been casually watching on the side, and haven’t had much chance to test it out.
I’m curious to see the actual number of subscribers they have, as that’s what’ll matter in the end.
The restriction remains, which is presumably why there are 4 servers now - one for each.
You can move each character once, with an option to rename when you move. You still cannot have characters in multiple factions on the same server; or so I read anyway.
I’d be very surprised if they lifted that restriction.

Yeah, I mainly asked because of the 3 server count. 4 makes sense.
We should get a new player list together, or at least update it.
