Having to turn so many features down really hinders the experience for me. My computer is not cutting edge but it is a solid rig for two years ago and PS2 is the only game that I have had frame rate issues on. The only way to get 20 to 40fps in fire fights for me is to essentially drop the visual quality down to low quality everything which is horrible looking for today’s standards. Still a good time when played with a focused group or outfit.

BR72 on miller, having a lot of fun. Updates refresh he game greatly, the last one turned MAX play a fun and viable gamestyle.
AlchemistOO, a Vanu on Mattherson in the Azure Twilight outfit as well. I play pretty frequently, multiple times a week. As Teiman stated, the frequent updates really keep the game fresh.
Anybody else still playing this? I gotta say my favorite change since it came out of beta has been the server wide missions to conquer a whole map, or more recently to capture all of a specific type of territory. Has made for a lot of intense battles and good XP.
I logged in today for the first time in a while and noticed that there were new revolvers. Are they worthwhile as alternatives to the normal sidearms?
I think they miiight be worthwhile if you don’t play NC, but I don’t have a very strong opinion about that. I have the default and… “Rebel” (?) pistol for the NC and I’ve played around with the new revolvers in the VR Training, but they didn’t seem like anything worth spending certs or SC on.
Anyone still playing this? Just got it last night. I’m massively confused but having fun. This is exactly like Battlefield online, just without destruction. Reminds me of Tribes, obviously. I love setting waypoints and exploring.
So far I’m mostly heavy assault as sniping is HARD in this game!

I stooped playing it, but I have played too many hours (maybe 700). If you have any question, I could help. The game is really harsh in newbies, because “choosing your battle” is as important in this game than the battle itself, and newbies are really bad at it. Also some of the gameplay mechanism are confusing. Feel free to ask.
Still playing, 300 hours logged so far and loved nearly every minute.
I think the key to enjoying Planetside 2 fully is to get yourself into a good outfit (clan). Belonging to an outfit with a bunch of other people who play together to set and acheive objectives, concentrate fire, use strategy and generally support one another makes the big battles so much more fun than lone wolfing it. One great side effect of this is that you earn more XP when in an outfit, as you’re almost always in a squad, and that squad is almost always part of a platoon, and since you get bonus XP for healing, repairing, resupplying and supporting guys in your squad/platoon, that’s up to 47 other guys funneling you bonus XP every time you play. Over time it adds up.

I’m still playing too, and I’m enjoying it a lot without any outfits or squads. Basically I view it as a dynamic Team Deathmatch generator and just jump into whatever fight presents itself without any long term commitments. Could be I’m wasting XP that way, but I have most of the unlocks I wanted, so it doesn’t really matter anymore.
Still playing, with the same Outfit I played with during PS1 (although most of the members are not PS1 vets).
(Dark, Vanu, Mattherson)
New Conglomerate on Connery.
Still play regularly, although I’m trying to convince myself to stop playing this and start playing things I bought during the Steam Summer Sale… last year…
Anywho, if you have any questions about anything feel free to post them here! I’ll flail around with my keyboard until somebody can give you a good answer, at least.

I’m interested in starting this. Who’s got a good squad/clan/site they like that welcomes new players (who are total newbs)?

Just fired this up again - I can barely play it now when in battles. Everything just freezes and so does the game. Didn’t have this issue 2 months ago, so guessing optimization went down the drain?
Optimization always takes a dump after every major update, and you returned about 48 hours after a big one. It often takes them a week or more to hammer out issues once a big update has gone live, so keep at it and things should sort themselves out. Meanwhile try lowering your graphics settings temporarily. I run on medium settings mostly, and rarely have issues even post-update. My rig isn’t MLG by any means. You may also want to run a file verification to make sure it’s not a file issue. You can find it under the settings icon (looks like a cog wheel) in the bottom left corner of the login screen.
DoomMunky - Azure Twilight on Matherson is a great outfit that welcomes new players. We’re Vanu, run regular ops in prime time, and have basic traing most Wednesdays at 9pm est. www.azuretwilight.org

Today the first phase of the optimization updates was deployed, bringing major FPS boosts. If anyone quit for performance reasons, this is a good opportunity for a second look.
I’ll check it out. I kind of fell out of playing because PhysX would make my game crash every 20 minutes or so (with a GTX680) and because I wanted to play games that I - you know - actually paid money for. PhysX made the battles look incredibly cool. Hopefully that has been worked out.

Why did you pay money for Planetside 2? Its a free to play game.
