No, but they’ve added a VR area where you can demo all weapons and vehicles, and they also gave much more detailed stats on them in the in-game UI. For me that’s good enough, because there’s no reason for me to own every gun - just the guns that fits my playstyle.

Some weapon costs have been changed. It can still be grindy if you’re saving up for one of the 1000-cert weapons, but I’ve been getting by with mostly 250-cert weapons (like the shotgun, battle rifle, and AA rocket launcher). 250 certs is roughly 10 hours worth of play for an average player, less once you factor in daily cert gains (or skilled play).

They have also done some minor adjustments to how much xp you gain for kills, etc. For example, you can now gain xp for just damaging an aircraft, the idea being that it is too hard to completely destroy a vehicle that can quickly flee, but denying it access to the battlefield by scaring it away is also valuable. They also changed the amount of xp you get for kills. Somebody who just spawned or was revived in the last few seconds only yields a little xp (a third normal?), but somebody who has been alive for a while and is on a kill streak yields a lot more xp than they used to, something like three times as much as a normal kill.

They also now have their own version of daily quests where you can get bonus xp for doing things like successfully defending a large base. And you also have badge progression for your different weapons, so after so many kills you get more bonus xp, and the same goes for healing/repair tools.

All that is new (I think) since it first launched.

Had to install PlayClaw to make screenshots–PrtScr didn’t seem to work. This is on highest settings–they’re kind of ugly still: http://i.imgur.com/e0rzwDX.jpg

I guess it is a high enough resolution–but stylistically they are…grainy.

OK, so here’s a question. I’ve been subscribed to PS2 for over a year without playing. I kind of… forgot about it. It was on an account I don’t use much.

So I gots all these sony coins or whatever the hell they are - what can I do with them in EQNL and PS2? Anything rad?

Rei - they don’t look like that in-game. At least, mine doesnt. The entry screen has always looked horrible for some weird reason.

SOE points can be used in all SOE’s games for various benefits. In Planetside you can purchase gear, guns and outfits with them.

So you don’t need to spend certs for proficiency? That might make me play some more. Pay to cheat!

I’ll pretty much echo what Razgon said. The entry screen really does look bad for some reason. I’ve actually noticed the textures get better overall. For a very long time, despite playing the game at highest settings, gun textures looked really bad to me. Not sure why, but it looks better now. I think the performance update they did a few months ago helped everything.

Planetside 2 doesn’t use the same “certs for proficiency” system as in Planetside 1. That said, most of the specialized equipment does requires that you unlock it, via certs or money.

WHY NOT

You should do it. In some corners of the internet I’ve seen it spray painted on the walls that PS2 > LoL. Juuuust sayin’.

I might play some when I get home! Seems it runs better than it did last time I tried as well.

Any overall squad or faction? I usually play Vanu but someone tricked me into TR this time.

I’ve never rolled with an outfit (guild) before, but playing with a pick-up squad can be fun. I’ve had a mixed bag of people who almost entirely ignore the squad they’re in, to pick-up squads that actually turn out to be fairly well coordinated. Most of the time I just fly solo for 20-40 minutes (about as long as I normally have to play in one sitting) and have fun with large battles already in progress.

As far as factions are concerned, whichever one strikes your fancy. I went with the New Conglomerate because I liked their rebel backstory, and their hard hitting weapons. The Vanu seem to be easy mode, and they’re what I’d recommend for people new to the game. Their weapons are very accurate.

But as you know you can have multiple characters from different factions, so just have fun messing around until you have a character you want to stick with.

We had a bunch of folks running around as Vanu on Mattherson back at launch. I don’t think there’s currently a Qt3 group at the moment. Yeah, pick whichever faction strikes your fancy; you have three slots and could try all three factions if you like. I don’t think any one faction is actually any easier/harder to play–they all have strengths and weaknesses.

The QT3 on Matherson is pretty dead. hardly anyone left and dont think any of them are playing. I have been the only one playing whenever I login.

It has been a long time since I looked into this, but I have been thinking about it since it is ps4 bound.

It seems to run much better now than before (it sucked big time then unless you had a god computer). I have a 25br Vanu on Mttherson and a 7br TR on Connery.

I have a 15br Vanu on Mattherson. I’d be willing to play it if you guys ever wanted to join up for a bit. I’m afraid I never did join the QT3 outfit.

On Connery I have a 43br NC. So the only way I’ll be seeing you there is through my crosshairs. Liberty or death!

The Qt3 outfit effectively disbanded–I switched my Mattherson character over to Azure Twilight, but actually, I don’t spend much time on Mattherson anymore because my other group of friends plays Vanu on Connery, where we get together on Wednesdays and shoot down ESFs (because massed lock-on rockets are fun).

You can also install the Player Test Server client (it’s a separate download) and create another set of characters, and it sort of acts like a live-fire VR Training area, since you’re given a pile of certs (10k or so) and all of the weapons cost 1 cert there. It’s kind of a ghost town, so you can’t actually play the game there, but it’s good for just goofing off and seeing what changes are in the works.

I’ll make a Vanu on Mattheson!
