On another note, the new NS weapons–the carbine and the LMG–are really good. I love them…great weapons all around.

I effing can’t stop playing this game. It is scratching that large scale combat itch I have had. One of the main reasons I bought a new computer (other than the fact that my PC was like 5 years old)
Do they allow SweetFX now?
The times when you get one of those epic fights, yeah, it’s pretty special. Was in one where we were crossing this gully, using a bridge for cover as well as pushing tanks over it, against a force on the ridge across the way. It was like something out of Saving Private Vanu or something.
As much fun as I have tooling around solo, I would love to see how much fun can be had in organized battle

Being part of an organized Outfit can really take the game to the next level.
Absolutely. I would not be playing the game damn near nightly if it were not for the guys (and girls) in Azure Twilight. Having organized Ops, with leadership, objectives and 47 other guys in the platoon that are all working WITH you to make shit happen is an amazing feeling unequaled in online games play.

Bleah, I’ve noticed lately that NC tends to outpopulate the other factions on the servers I frequent. I wonder if this is a rise in NC population, a drop in TR/VS population, or (more likely) some combination of the two.

Nc have kind of taken over everywhere. On Matherson, I roll with the “Ragequit Outfit” it is pretty ok, semi-casual, and there are usually both casual and tactical platoons running. Lots of fun being part of large platoon pushes and whatnot.

They’re pretty good, I’ve also run with Vindicators and V404 platoons and they’re quality outfits. I just love it when you’re rolling along with the Vanu zerg and TR/NC decides to make a stand and you actually feel the ebb and flow to the battle. If things start to feel bad I usually hightail it to the previous capture point and start laying down tank mines and preparing defenses.
Speaking of which, what is the maximum number of mines that can be laid out by an engie?

You can deploy as many mines as you can normally carry. This is of all types, so your engineer can have both AP and AV mines placed simultaneously. I believe the theoretical limit is 3 AP mines and 5 AV mines with a fully-upgraded utility pouch. Mines are persistent until you log out or change continents. I do not know how it handles cross-class mine placement limits.
I really wish the game had a HUD indicator to tell you how many of your mines were currently deployed, mostly so I would know when to place news ones. I mean sure, you can always place new mines, but they displace old ones if you’re at your deploy limit.

Just saw this video a VS lightshow from an NC perspective and it looks like VS on Mattherson is still holding Scarred Mesa Skydock? Friday evening I jumped in with Ragequit and they had established their hold on the Skydock and made apparent their intention to hold it. Without it, it would be all too possible for us to lose our continent lock and -10% on infantry needs.
Even though there were some downtimes it was fun defending “the most defensible location on Indar”. The TR made a couple of drops and a major assault on the jump pad and I felt that glee when two big forces are just hammering each other. This is when Planetside 2 really shines, may the Vanu Soveriegnty prevail!
Game is amazing at times, over 200 hours now, but my machine really struggles in the bigger fights. I have stopped playing for now, its hard to really aim well at 14 fps :)
Oh, the stupid stupid people who can save my K/D…
For those who aren’t playing the game, there are basically three types of shields:
- Infantry from all sides can pass through, bullets CANNOT pass through, vehicles only from the owning side can pass through.
- Only infantry from the owning side can pass through.
- Infantry AND bullets from the owning side can pass through.
The last shields are found in spawn rooms and similar locations. You can move in and out if it is your room, and you can fire out, but no one can fire in. Key point there, you can shoot, they can’t.
And yet, in the last stages of a BioLab fight, when the owning faction has lost the ability to respawn (and therefore has good reason to sit tight), you see the attackers gathered around the doors of the spawn room.
Even when you set up a machine gun nest (or nests) and keep mowing them down.
I specifically bought a fancy new gaming laptop for this game, but I’ve had the feeling that enthusiasm (at least on this forum) was waning.
Are many qt3ers still playing?
Are the remaining Qt3 people concentrated on any particular servers/factions?
I used to play TR and Vanu in Planetside 1, but I’m not that loyal after all these years.
I play multiple times a week, Vanu, Mattherson, outfit DARK.
My main is NC on Helios, but I have a Vanu on Mattherson. Its still the game I play most on a regular basis.
I have a TR on Mattherson. I play a few times a week.
Vanu on Mattherson in the Azure Twilight outfit.
NC on Ceres, only BR29. It basically killed all my interest for BF4. Playing in a somewhat organized outfit can turn the game from an average shooter to an amazing experience. And with a bit of ini tweaking works great. For me turing stuff up in the Ini insead of down resulted in better frames.
