XSX looks simpler, but there was a ton of engineering that went into that. Split motherboard. The entire internal chassis being an elaborate heatsink. The inside is sort of a wind tunnel. It gets more airflow through it than the Xbox One X, even though everything is packed so tightly together and on top of one another.

I really think it comes down to MS learning their lesson with the X360 and seriously not F’in around with cooling.

Yea I didn’t mean not as good. The X looks like it’s easier to build.

UK Xbox Twitter poking fun at PS5.

The PS5 looks absolutely gigantic in that video. Is that guy just a super tiny person?

You must’ve missed where some of us were talking about how that thing isn’t going to fit on our media centers upright. It’s big.

I just hope they have some function with that, and it wasn’t some guy who secretly wanted to be an architect living out his dreams with plastic.

It feels like both MS and Sony came up with different cooling solutions for more or less the same problem. Sony’s solution was a very, very large but traditionally shaped console - probably in order to disguise the massive airflow needed. MS’s solution was a very open (and potentially vulnerable) computer case style high-airflow console that not only doesn’t disguise the airflow but makes it a “feature” and puts it front and center.

I measured my entertainment center, which can easily fit my large receiver, home theater PC, and other devices today.

Xbox Series X should easily fit in with room to spare.

The PS5 is so dang tall that I don’t think it’ll fit in there at all :-(

On their sides the PS5 is shorter than the Xbox.
The PS5 is 15 by 10 by 4.
The Xbox is 12 by 6 by 6.

Yeah but my issue is width of entertainment center, not height. It’s just barely 15" wide which I’d be concerned about heat-wise.

Gotta account for air movement for that though. All that heat coming out of the top has to be adaquately moved away from the console to make sure it doesn’t bake itself.

Well it wouldn’t be a proper Xbox release if the first generation consoles didn’t get some sort of ongoing I’m toast error.

I’m not sure I’d consider the multi-part motherboard of the XSX “simpler”. By comparison, the PS5 mobo is pretty old school. It’s the cooling that is interesting.

The main purpose of the outer shell/stand appears to be making sure it gets the airflow it needs. If it fits in a space it’s probably okay.

From the videos it also looks like the PS5 is much taller than 4 inches when situated horizontally, since the stand seems like it’ll add quite a bit of height. Can’t really tell though.

Interesting fan. Sucks from both sides.

Love how you can unscrew the base and then there’s a little space to put your screw in. And a little cover for that space. And a cap for the hole your screw left.

And that is some heatsink.

This made me laugh out loud!
