Only 10 games out of the entire PS4 catalog? That seems pretty good.

Yeah, it’s almost like people should have believed them when they said the vast majority of games would work.

I am intrigued as to what the deal is with these. We’ve seen this before though, a few titles way back when when they did backward compatibility.

We’ll, they don’t actually say ‘everything but these ten’. They said ‘these ten definitely aren’t coming’… and ‘the majority of titles should work, some a bit enhanced’. Still not much of an answer.

Ghost of Tsushima is getting a 60fps mode.

And they’ve said 4000+ titles will work. I’m not sure what is ambiguous about that. It’s not really any different from what MS says about compatibility. The enhancements with boost mode are the same as XSX/S offer: games with unlocked framerates and dynamic resolutions will get better. Loads from the SSD will be faster.

Read it again. “Majority of the 4000+ PS4 games will work”. So that’s somewhere between 2001-3999.

They’ve also said “vast majority” and “over 99%”. You’re being ludicrous.

I was over here looking up Joe’s Diner to see how mad I should be about this. What are we arguing about again?

(no I really wasn’t)

If it’s under like 50, I’d say that would be a great result. I hope online is still there although to be honest Overcooked (complete?) is probably going to be one of my earliest purchases. So yep, already know I am willing to repeat buy in some cases.

Have they said that? Ok, I will absolutely take you at your word, and I guess I stand corrected. Then again, this is a company that’s on record as saying back-compat isn’t a big priority for them, has a record of just rereleasing previous-gen games for their new systems (and charging full price for the privilege of playing them on the new hardware), etc. Some scepticism is warranted with such vague language as on that tweet.

Except Microsoft adds HDR to these games. Sony isn’t doing anything like that are they?

Does that apply to Xbox One games? Or only 360/OG Xbox games? Either way, I’m not a fan of unilaterally changing the look of a huge swath of games with a one size fits all solution.

I think the new Xbox AI-generated HDR thing can be toggled on/off in the system settings.

Yes it can. I’m sure there are some games where it will have bad results, but for the most part it seems like a nice improvement. This is technology that didn’t exist when the games were created, so it’s not like the developers deliberately eschewed it for artistic reasons.

Yeah, it’s looked good on all the games shown thus far.

You gotta be kidding me…

Calling Michael Pachter “informed” is certainly…something.

Laughable is more like it.

Maybe the new HD Camera isn’t as good as the previous PS Camera, and therefore can’t be used with it?

Seems like a pretty passive-aggressive way of announcing there will not be a PSVR 2.

It’s super weird, because all the camera does is let the PS4 track the lights on the headset. They’re not even IR, they’re completely visible blue lights.

Maybe there’s some magic something happening, but at least that’s how I thought it worked.
