maybe PSVR2 will use something different for tracking? Are all VR sets using a camera for head tracking?

PSVR 2 is likely to use inside out tracking as that’s the current state of the art.

The PS4 camera is stereoscopic and supports high frame rates (240fps, I think). The new PS5 camera may not support those features well enough. I don’t think it’s lenses are as far apart, for example.

Yeah their recent patents hint at inside out tracking.

I hope new tracking methods don’t break compatibility with PSVR titles. I’ve been buying them when they go on sale on the assumption that one day, down the road, I will probably own some version of PSVR.

So, you won’t buy a permanent sub to Amazon Prime, but you will buy games for a platform you don’t own?

I deserve that. Not for not being a permanent member of Prime (I only get 6 or 7 things from Amazon delivered a year, max), but for buying PSVR games when I’ll likely never own one.

Sony’s tracking definitely uses visible light. If you have 4 wands connected the system assigned different colors though. Blue, red, yellow, pink.

Just heard on DF the PS5 PSU is 350W. A whisker more than the Series X. This gen’s power use seems high to me. Roll on streaming :)

Heh, my entire computer used ~350w at load with my old GTX1080. These consoles are gonna be toasty.

With the way technology availability is going, I’m probably never getting a PS5 as I just can’t compete with bot.

I bet you get one before I get a 3080. There’s gonna be LOTs in stores for the consoles. I don’t think either of them is planning on unhappy consumers for Christmas. Nvidia keeps fucking up the 3000 series tho.

I only want to know one thing: can you finally save screenshots to the cloud, so I can access them easily on my phone/PC?

That interface looks really busy and intrusive to me, taking up a lot of screenspace, looking cluttered. I don’t know. It will take some getting used to.

When he did picture-in-picture mode of watching your friend play a different game while you play something else? That’s awesome. The Xbox One taught me I’m a big fan of multitasking on a console. If they announce a picture-in-picture mode is also possible to watch Netflix/others while you play, I’m going to cancel my Series X pre-order and go with PS5 instead.

Weird I think it looks very clean and uncluttered.

So strange to me that this is the deciding factor in which console you buy. I like the game guide feature they showed but the last thing I want to do while playing a game is watch a movie or show.

I like the new UI and Sony’s push for changing the overall experience with activities. Makes sense that they invested so much into the SSD tech. Also happy to hear they’ll be using more extensive caching as PS4’s loading of network assets contributed to it feeling sluggish.

Movies are definitely out. But shows like The Daily Show, stand up comedy, Late Show, Last Week Tonight, those types of shows are perfect while you game. And conversely, it doesn’t work for every game either. Narrative heavy games and cutscene heavy games are out, but games like Destiny and Diablo 3, where story doesn’t matter at all are perfect multi-tasking games.

He didn’t mention anything about the cloud when he did the screenshot with the Create button on the controller or at the end when he went to share it, when he said “supported external services”. He did mention that it integrates with the photo mode present in many games. So no way to know… yet.

I actually really like the UI, and I think that the little breadcrumbs/hint/jump back in tutorials associated with the “Activities” is brilliant. I often stall out early in a game and end up coming back, feel lost, and have to restart completely. This will help with that.

I could see some value in a PiP mode for MMO grinding, absolutely. Not too much different than what I do now with a second monitor on PC.

The game hints and expected activity playtime are nice little features. I hope third party devs put the effort in and take them seriously.

I like the idea of playing an online tactical game and being able to see your partners screen PiP at all times.
