Voice dictation for text input is nice!
Honestly, all the in game activities options and features are really impressive. Tons of flexibility and potential there. This is the kind of thing that makes me love PlayStation.
I use it on the Apple TV a lot. It’s a pretty nice way to enter passwords and emails for logins and such, isn’t it? It’s way more convenient than I was expecting.

Yeah, the first thing I imagined was the cross-com thing from the GRAW games. That’d be a pretty fun way to use it.
I wonder why that’s better than spinning the fan up when things get hot, which seemed like an ok solution.

Someone asked almost the same thing and another commenter replied with a theory:

Seems…inefficient. What is wrong with a temperature based fan curve like literally everything else uses?
The only thing I can think of is that modern processors achieve higher clock speeds at lower temperatures, so while a fan would ‘know’ exactly how fast to spin to achieve the desired balance between performance and audibility right at this moment, it can’t anticipate an extremely compute demanding sequence springing up in about 1-2 seconds that will require higher clock speeds, and louder fans which could in turn result in some momentary slowdown as the fans catch up.
This probably makes even more sense in a System on a Chip design like the PS5, where temp/clock speed are being traded between the GPU and the CPU.
If I understand that correctly, this allows the fan to speed up in anticipation instead of waiting for temperatures to rise which should, in theory, allow it to keep everything running cooler. Why wait to ramp up if you know the heat is coming?

Are they gonna make it so you need to take a ton of extra steps and make groups and crap so that you can invite people into parties?
Because that’s a really sweet aspect of the new PS4 experience.

I think you need to describe your experience in more detail so we get a clearer picture of how you feel about that ;)

Finally, they’ve adopted the “Guide overlay” paradigm the Xbox 360 launched 15 years ago! UI looks pretty slick. If experience with picture-in-picture-anything is any indicator, the window will invariably cover some necessary UI element and I’ll stop using it. Too annoying to use on my iPad, and there I can even just move it around with my finger.
Yeah, I have to save them to a private post on Facebook and then download them, or use a USB stick and sneakernet, with the PS4. I really hope they support something like Onedrive/Dropbox/etc.
It has the option to “snap” to the side, too, and not cover anything.

Oh, nice! In most cases I wouldn’t want to shrink my main game, but that certainly makes it more usable in cases where I’d want to track another player.
Now if I can just find a no-disc PS5 preorder…
Nice. Though I’m one of the only people on this forum who actually liked Snap mode on Xbox One so I’m guessing most people won’t like this option.
More (and better quality) at the link.
Press and influencers all started getting their review units today.
Is this one of those deals like with Xbox, where if I buy Miles Morales for the PS4, and then 3 years later I buy a PS5, I’ll already own the PS5 version automatically?
Yes, Miles is a free upgrade to PS5 if you buy on PS4. You’ll need the disc version of the PS5 if you go physical for the game, though.
If you have ordered any accessories for the PS5, both Sony and Best Buy created pending charges on Sunday and they will ship this week.
My son works at Best Buy now and he said controllers are in store. The 30th might be the first day on display as that’s also the day Sony said would be the shipping day for accessories from them.
