I agree with Woodlance though that it would be a mildly superior experience.

Now, a horror game in which the interaction between light and dark, shadows and light is hugely important to immersion and setting the mood, in THAT game better hardware can lead to a vastly superior experience. But a 3D platformer with highly stylized art? Get out of here.

yeah, watching the differences between PS3 Demon’s Souls or PS5 version, I think PS3 version nailed it pretty much with the atmossphere. I don’t know if the PS5 version is the better experience in a visual sense.

You’re trolling right?

The original did a great job with the power at its disposal, but the remaster is one of the best looking games I’ve ever seen. But then putting it in performance mode it’s suddenly even better still.

It’s a far better experience than the original and it’s not even close.

glad you say this. I hope to experience it myself. Maybe videos don’t do justice.

The Demon’s Souls remaster is SO superior to the original. It’s gorgeous, and the impact of both high framerate and the crazy-fast loading times removes so much friction that had nothing to do with your skill. It’s easily the best launch title I’ve played in a very long time.

I was pretty lukewarm on the Demon’s Souls remake until I watched some footage from Digital Foundry in 4k in HDR and it was just enough to convince me to order it. In person however it looks like a painting come to life.

That and playing through it was a joy now that the load times are removed.

Almost 12 years of time and next gen consoles that display an image that doesn’t look like it smeared Vaseline on my screen , will indeed make a difference.

True, you can use the vaseline for something else now. Demon’s souls remake looks and plays fantastic.

People always say that about Nintendo, but every time they’re given a hardware upgrade they do incredible things with it. Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey would not be possible on the Wii. It’s not about how would they make Galaxy look better, it’s “what new games or art styles are now possible thanks to advances in technology?”

Sackboy is actually an ironic example, given how much Nintendo has been biting Media Molecule’s style in the last decade. The advance to material shaders has directly influenced their increased use of arts and craft aesthetic designs across multiple franchises.

That would be fabulous. I doubt I could have passed the marshmallow test as a kid. I hope he pulls it off!

I can tell you for sure that watching video or streamers for Demon’s Souls does NOT do justice to what it looks like when you play because I watched @Mike_Cathcart play and then my son bought the game for our PS5 and it was a complete “Whoa!” experience for me when I saw it in person running in performance mode.

This is an issue with YouTube/Twitch now. They are simply not representative of what you are going to see when you play the game on a modern television. This is something that I tangled with people about in another thread where they poo pooed modern TVs and “Why should I upgrade my 1080p set I bought in 2012?!” You absolutely fucking should. It’s not eight years ago. Both the machines that run the games and the screens you run them on have come miles from that time. It’s also why I don’t buy into Streaming ever being a truly interesting thing. Games only look this good when you’re closer to the metal. Unless we can get to some near zero amount of delay across the board from data center to my controller, it ain’t gonna ever feel or look this good to stream.

And again, regarding YouTube, who do offer 4K streams/videos, it apparently takes forever for them to put the 4K versions up. John Linneman has been talking about it on his Twitter. They submit the videos at 4K and it takes weeks to appear at that resolution. YouTube processing is a nightmare right now for that content. I’ve seen JackFrags stream in 4K so it can be done, but it can also be wonky depending on your connection quality. I have fast Xfinity internet and even so I sometimes get some odd behavior watching streams like that.

@Brad_Grenz I’d just put those comparison videos in the console war thread now. Hopefully that will keep that sort of arguing out of console specific threads.

This is a pretty recent development. Not even the higher quality 1080 versions are being posted in a reasonable time. Before you expected to wait hours for 4K but now it’s days.

Recent or not, I think it’s affecting the perception of these consoles and Demon’s Souls in particular.

Hahaha, more than half the video is the guy painstakingly disassembling the entire thing just so he can mess up the center part with a scouring pad.

Other than that, some nice tips.

That guy has a very pleasant demeanor. It was enjoyable to hear him talk.

I skipped the whole part about scratching up the plastic though.

That video is worth it for the first tip alone, which I was not aware of (microphone being on by default).

I guess some guys out there are really obsessed about their plastic.

I found it confusing. Like when and why would I ever touch the black plastic part? Even putting in a disc or plugging in a controller to charge you really don’t touch it.

I just don’t understand people.

I like how he kept going deeper and deeper into the disassembly, I skipped over most of it because it was the lion’s share of the video but every time I stopped to see if I was through it he was talking about easy it was. It did not look easy.

I did like how it looked. If I could snap my fingers and make it look like that instead I surely would but I would forget about it the next day.
