Yeah he tore that thing about. It was like two steps behind one of those how easy is it to fix videos. When you have remind people in the states that manufacturers cannot deny you warranty because you removed a sticker, and it’s all done to change the look and feel of out plastic… I just figure we’re a couple steps away from a pretty healthy skin market. Sony can also squeeze out some easy money once they’ve managed to produce enough to satisfy demand by doing a dozen or so of those specific game looking machines (game not included).

Someone posted a company that had new side panels designed but Sony apparently shut them down. I wouldn’t mind something that made it more flat and less protruding if it didn’t mess with the thermals.

I just want an all black one

taking it appart is easy, but putting it back together, eh.
I fixed my PS4 controller once with the help of a YT video. The rubber of the left stick was broken. I had to take it appart, putting it back together was tough, but doable.
Would never do this to a brandnew PS5. If there were fingerprints on it, I would use a cleaning tissue

Dbrand, one of the larger skins-for-every-device companies, decided not to make skins for the PS5.
Basically, they decided that a simple slap-it-on-the-outside skin was too ugly because it left a lot of white showing, and that a full-wrap skin was so hard to apply that it would be a customer service nightmare.

Makes sense. I agree the PS5 is fuuuugly. Sony should sell an all-black version, and sell black side-panels separately if possible.

My base for my PS5 was cracked when I got it. Very odd, it looked fully factory packaged (got it from Target.) Talking about the black thing you use to stand it on end. Any idea on best way to get a new one?
That company certainly has a… direct way of talking to the customer.

So for my cracked base: Went to the Sony PS site. Hardware Fix and Repairs. You have to choose a category. Only categories are Disc, Controller, TV connection, Network, and something else. None of those are the issue. Contact us give a Twitter option. Go to that, it’s Sony PS support. DM them. “We don’t deal with those issues, go to the Hardware Fix and Repairs page.” Link takes me to where I was. OK, open up a support chat window. Guy takes my information, asks me my problem. Oh - we don’t handle that in this area. Gives me a link that takes me back to the Hardware Fix and Repair option. ARGGGGG. I’ll try calling tomorrow. Sony really goes out of their way to get help. (They’re the same way on the TV side.)

Man, I really wish either Playstation or Xbox One X were actually available ANYWHERE in Denmark.
As it looks now ,we can expect them sometime next year instead, even though original release date was 19th of November.

Well that’s the whole thing, not just the strip down the middle. Someone is going to offer it, eventually.
I think it looks fine. It’s giant piece of plastic sitting next to other ugly pieces of plastic. The world of electronics in the lower and mid tiers gave up on aesthetics a long time ago. My receiver is a square. The Roku, FireTVs and UPS are largely rectangles and squares. What is Xbox getting praise for, a big ole square. The people who are bothered by the ugliness of our e crap are either slowly going insane every year or just shoving it in a cabinet like normal people do.

The XS models aren’t beautiful, they’re just inoffensive. IMO the original X360 was the most aesthetically pleasing console ever made, and it wasn’t exactly gorgeous. Sadly its slim design caused it to overheat leading to RRODs. That’s why MS is all about function over form now.

Must also be the reason why they have the terrible naming schemes they do too. It’s like someone thought using their SKU as a model name would not at all be confusing to the people going around asking what the new Wii console is this year, or that Nintendo XBOX thing.

I was still confused by the Xbox naming scheme right up to and a week after launch. It’s ridiculous how bad they are at naming things at Microsoft and that continues across the entire company.
XSX is ugly too but it’s certainly less goofy looking than the PS5. Which I don’t hate but don’t really like either. The 360 probably was the best looking console… well maybe the GameCube. I always did like it’s transcendent simplicity.
Yeah their naming convention is absolutely terrible, especially for people who only have a vague idea what they are looking for, usually parents looking for gifts for their kids.
While most modern tech isn’t aesthetically pleasing, the best I hope for is for each unit to blend into the background or not be too much of an eye sore that stands out like a sore thumb. I prefer wallflowers with technology.
That will vary between households but being massive and white isn’t a great start unless one somehow already has the white Apple aesthetic going on.

Synology has white. Blink has released white seems like many of the smart plugs are white now. I mean white is a perfectly valid and not even a rare occurrence as a shiny plastic scheme for electronics.
The Skyscraper look isn’t my favorite either, but it’s not even close the most hideous ideas I’ve seen, and again, many are just going to hide it behind a cabinet anyway. Those that want to spend an hour pulling the thing apart to scratch the hell out of it, well nothing is stopping them. XBOX didn’t even try.
There will be cosmetically different ones in the future anyway, there always are. I mean we had a bright red one in the last generation… bright bright red.

I don’t find the XSX or S ugly at all. They have no design aesthetic whatsoever, they’re just inoffensive.
If I got one I’d put it in a cabinet and not see it, that’s completely correct, but still. The PS5, nobody’s not going to have an opinion about the PS5.

X/S have the industrial beauty of function shaping form. The PS5 is still torn between the two. The X/S would actually suck hard if they were loud, noisy, inefficient and ran hot.

I’ve never spent more than a second thinking about how consoles look, but now that you mention it, I really like the simple look of the One X.
The PS4 might look decent lying flat – if I didn’t need to put it in wide-open space propped an inch off the ground to keep the jet engine below 120 dB.
