Right after I typed that up they sent me a in stock alert and I was able to get the order to go through. I’d love to get a peak into the systems that handle these weird demand spikes, it must be such a pain in the ass for the companies, I wonder why they even bother.

Wow, you can preorder PS5 games here in Au for delivery November 12. But a console? ‘TBC 2021’ lol… what a shambles! :D

What instock alert program are you using?

I just used Walmart itself. On the ps 5 page you should see a ‘alert me when back in stock’ link.

Just got through the Sony Pre-Order queue and ordered my PS5. Whew!

Direct from Sony seems to have worked. Pretty smooth process, dumped you into an online queue, gave you a wait time, very clear instructions.

Still I wont believe everything worked until it shows up at my door.

Despite being a PSN and PSPlus member since day one I did not get an invite. Kinda salty but whatever

I was passed through 2 queues and then once I got to the store there are no PS5s here to buy, only games and accessories…

OK, so it turns out the PlayStation Direct preorder process is just broken in Google Chrome. I switched to Firefox and got my preorder for a digital PS5 in seconds…

That’s strange. I used Chrome and it worked for me. Glad you managed to snag one.

Fuuuuuuuck. This is not how preorders work.

Got the same email. There’s probably a greater than 0 chance the order gets cancelled.

I guess im going to have to catass the Xbox queue when it opens up.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld bit on car reservations. The whole point of the pre-order is to get it on day one.

I dunno, it’s pretty common for limited stock hardware, doubly so if you’re ordering from a reseller. My Oculus Rift pre-order arrived about a month after release. My 1080 took several. You’re just putting your name in the queue much of the time.

Ugh. That Amazon preorder was too smooth so of course something like this pops up. Every place else is sold out though, so I guess I’m sticking with it for now.

If you go to Amazon.com and the PlayStation 5 page says that it ships on November 12th, and when you click on the Pre-Order Now button it says it ships on November 12th, then you should be able to count on it shipping November 12th. Suggesting that it’s OK for Amazon to just bait and switch you and say “just kidding! We actually don’t know when you’re going to get it” is baffling to me.

Amazon.com is a huge company. They absolutely know how to take exactly as many pre-orders as they have consoles to deliver, and then shift the delivery date message to some time after ship BEFORE you click the order now button.

I’m not saying it’s OK to bait and switch. If they say it ships day one, they should ship it day one. I’m just saying pre-ordering doesn’t always mean it ships day one. It’s not “the whole point” of pre-ordering. It’s one of the points.

I love how that scene in Seinfeld uses TRS-80 Model III’s. They don’t even fit on the counter!

Well that’s nice of them to acknowledge, let’s see how well they follow through.
