I just don’t see the point in them having me register as interested only to… not do anything with it. What was the secret sauce for that to even matter?

This seems like the least important generation yet, to have a console on day one.
A bunch of the games are not only releasing on last gen consoles, but they have stuff in place where you get a copy for the new gen console too.

Sheesh, that whole article about “how big the PS5 is” and there aren’t even any measurements. I’m already pretty sure it would have to go on top of the entertainment center rather than inside, but it would be nice to get confirmation.
Hard disagree. Console launch titles are usually rushed and mediocre, with occasional exceptions, so you wouldn’t miss much on most systems if you waited a year or so for the library to fill out.
This is the first generation with enough continuity of hardware to give not just backward compatibility, but a significant upgrade to whatever the best games you haven’t played yet from the past few years are.
Previous generations I’d have no problem just playing whatever games were only on the older system, and knowing I’d get around to the new stuff somewhere down the road. But now if I were to try to pick up my playthrough of, say, Horizon on my launch-era PS4, I’ll have in the back of my mind that I could be enjoying the exact same game with better visuals, smoother frame rate, faster load times, and no jet engine fan noise.
So Miles Morales Spiderman game will be 50GB or 105 GB for edition with base game. Demon Souls remake will be 66GB.
I mean, there’s a ruler in the pictures. Looks a little less than 30 centimeters by 50 cm by eh, 10 cm?
The exact dimensions were in the japanese version of the blog post from Wednesday announcing price and release date.

Yep, this is the big push for me. Even my Pro seems loud these days compared to my PC or PC streaming. Lower load times will be nice to have as well. The trick is going to be selling the Pro - don’t think I can trade it in because the HDD was upgraded from 1 to 2TB. I guess I could sell it ahead of time but there’s that small worry in the back of my head that some of my save games didn’t get chucked to the cloud and would be lost forever.
Upgrading the hard drive does not void warranty. You should not have trouble trading it in.

Right, I suppose “can’t” is a bit strong and more “trading in is an even worse deal since they’ll be giving me at best the 1TB SKU’s value”. And waiting obviously adds its own set of problems as the value won’t be going up.
Not particularly looking for a solution so much as thinking out loud and weighing options.

Thanks. Scanned the text thoroughly but didn’t zoom in enough to see that was more than a frame. Definitely not going to fit inside the entertainment center then.
You can also back them up on a usb stick.
If you’ve played a lot of games they might not be on the cloud. There’s a # of save files limit. I think I’m pretty close to having reached it myself.
Can you pop back in the old drive? Also, I think some places like GameStop are setup to give you better value for non-official drive sizes. At least I remember them being able to do this for PS3.
Well, I took a measuring tape and the ol’ Ikea TV stand sure wasn’t designed with this in mind. That 47 cm length sure is something.
I guess it’s going to have to stand up on the floor. First world problems, eh?

I nabbed a preorder, after some effort and luck. I’m still pretty happy with the last gen refresh, but figure I might as well play even backlogged games on more powerful tech - hopefully some more get additional enhancements relatively quickly. Guess I’ll also try to get an Xbox Series X. Will be fun to actually play some new games around Xmas for a change.

Can’t wait to upgrade my PS4 Slim (not a Pro.) That thing reminds me of when I lived on Air Force bases as a kid, and the school was next to the flight line, and how hard it was to hear the teacher as the F-4s taxied past the hut our class was in. Even doing nothing, even after cleaning the dust out, it seems to have a fan running that’s the same volume as our vacuum cleaner.

The PS5 will sit inside my entertainment console just barely, maybe half an inch on each side. I’m starting to see why the PS5 has such an odd, non symmetrical design… it’s probably so you can’t accidentally block the air vents when squeezing it into a tight space.
Yeah, and like the PS3 they also made that rounded so you couldn’t stack other things on top of it.

Anyone changing their pre-order in light of the Bethedsa news? It’s given me pause at any rate.

The Bethesda/Zenimax games I enjoy I prefer on KBM over controller and if I buy them it’ll be on PC, so no.
