Pope dies...next up?

I’m wondering if the next pope will be as influential as JPII was. Who do you think it will be?

The next pope will be older than John Paul II was when he took over. I’m not sure the college of cardinals wants another pope who will stick around for a quarter century.

The growth of the church in Africa and Latin America means that a Third World pope is a possibility. An African pope has the advantage of making the RC Church look liberal while having no change in doctrine, since the African church is theologically conservative.

There’s also a feeling that it’s time for another Italian - they make up a large percentage of the college IIRC.

But for the first time in 100s of years, the italians aren’t the majority. JPII revamped and modernized the rules for electing a pope, so the Americas and Africa get a much bigger say this time around.

Just listening to the BBC now and however much JPII modernized the voting, he simply elected a buttload of cardinals from the developing world…something like 34 to the 70ish from the traditionally strong countries. So, the developing world will definitely have more of a voice.

I’d kind of hope for some one to have a more modern view on things like contraception, homosexuality and stem cell research and such…

How about the new Pope also endorsing bigomy, gay marriage, co-habitation, abortion, adultery, prostitution, and Euthanasia? Yes, I agree, we DEFINITELY need a Pope, one of the last western worlds major MORAL authorities, standing line-in-line with the ACLU (a primarily athiestic organization), and others who despise religion (leftists Marxist who want all the things you mentioned). Basically, you want the Catholic religion to not BE the catholic religion anymore-you want it allied with leftists policies (which are primarily Marxist) and people who actually despise religion, MOCK IT, and hold it in disdain. What about re-writing the Bible to make it more politically correct? I hear the new international version company, or whatever they call themselves, are working on that too. HEY, maybe the new Pope can revise the Churchs’ thinking on gender orientation and suopprt, hell INSIST on sex change operations paid for by the state! Now that would be Progress. Once you give them an inch, they will take a MILE- at least in THIS day and age. Thats why the Pope needs to be strong and resist the temptation to bend to those that wish to warp and twist the Church and the papacy into something completely ineffectual.

JPII was so popular exactly BECAUSE he toured the world and spoke OUT against the things you mentioned. The next pope will hopefully follow in PJIIs’ footsteps and hold true. Otherwise, we will see the delution of Roman Catholocizm due to the corruption of leftwing marxism, AND Marxists, the phony bleeding heart, and idots (basically the BANE of modern civilizations) will eat the church alive- just as Marxism/socialism/soft communism/communism eats away at the traditions of every civilization/cultre/tradition it takes root in, sows chaos, then rebuilds it as a thouroughly immoral place. A place where the STATE becomes the religion and all rights are derived by the state and not our creator- as was the very REASON the United States gave in our Declaration of Independence as its right to even EXIST. Rights derived by no government, no lawyer in a black robe(the modern king), no aclu, no monachy or KING-rights derived by our creator that can’t be subverted by the state. The minute the state becomes our religion, as all leftwing Marxists work hard to do thru various machinations- those rights can be stripped, twisted, corrupted, and a society becomes unable to both:

  1. defend itself against outside enemies without turning to totalitarianism

  2. maintain traditional rights or any moral boundaries whatsoever. Remember to an athiest there are no morals, no ABSOLUTES, there are only ethics which twist, warp, and swing in the wind according to whatever lawyer in a black robe (the new Kings), or whatever theoreticals so-called experts in academia think up (the new, self-serving aristocracy).

EDIT: SLIGHTLY CORRECTED- I was typing too fast. (don’t have a lot of time)

JPII was so popular exactly BECAUSE he toured the world and spoke OUT against the things you mentioned.

Evidence?

Haha, awesome post Gideongamer.

I agree with you up to this point, actually… if we remove the bigotry and homophobia, what will we have left?

JPII was so popular exactly BECAUSE he toured the world and spoke OUT against the things you mentioned.

This is, by the way, the exact reason that my reaction to his death is apathy mixed with a tiny, tiny bit of joy.

The next pope will hopefully follow in PJIIs’ footsteps and hold true. Otherwise, the delution of Roman Catholocizm and the corruption of leftwing marxism will eat the church alive- just like it eats away at the traditions of every civilization it takes root in, sows chaos, then rebuilds it as a thouroughly immoral place.

Just so we’re clear, you’re saying that the “delution” of Roman “Catholocizm” is what eats away every civilization it takes root in?

A place where the STATE becomes the religion and all rights are derived by the state and not our creator- as was the very REASON the United States gave in our Declaration of Independence. Rights derived by no government, no lawyer in a black robe(the modern king), no aclu, no monachy or KING-rights derived by our creator that can’t be subverted by the state.

I can’t decide which is funnier: that you think the Declaration of Independence somehow has something to do with the US government, or that you think the founding fathers were all devout Catholics. No wait, I’ve decided: it’s that you think fascism (which is what grown-ups call it when the state is essentially the religion) is a leftwing movement.

The minute the state becomes our religion, as all leftwing Marxists work hard to do thru various machinations- those rights can be stripped, twisted, corrupted, and a society becomes unable to both:

  1. defend itself against outside enemies without turning to totalitarianism

Right, how can we possibly defend ourselves without God on our side?

  1. maintain traditional rights or any moral boundaries whatsoever. Remember to an athiest there are no morals, no ABSOLUTES, there are only ethics which twist, warp, and swing in the wind according to whatever lawyer in a black robe (the new Kings), or whatever theoreticals so-called experts in academia think up (the new, self-serving aristocracy).

I give up… what do I say here? Oh, oh, I thought of something: you’re an idiot.

He was the Pope. What did you think he spoke out against as he toured the world? It’s his job.

Actually, the Italians were only about 25% of the College of Cardinals when John Paul II was elected; and they have dropped since then.

According to the NYT piece, all but 3 of the current cardinals were nominated by John Paul II. So I wouldn’t count on them producing a very liberal pope.

Grow up.

Grow up.[/quote]

Sorry! Here, see if this is better:

  1. maintain traditional rights or any moral boundaries whatsoever. Remember to an athiest there are no morals, no ABSOLUTES, there are only ethics which twist, warp, and swing in the wind according to whatever lawyer in a black robe (the new Kings), or whatever theoreticals so-called experts in academia think up (the new, self-serving aristocracy).

But that’s completely ridiculous. How does contraception threaten anybody’s rights? And where do you think the rights laid out for us in the US – in the Bill of Rights – came from? The Bible? Hardly. But good job slamming those damned lawyers and professors!

I thought God was supposed to pick.

How to detect the crazy people in forums: look for the use of all-cap words, boldface and italics.

He is, by influencing the choices PJII made while he was alive…

Hey, that sounds like John C. Dvorak.

Bring back Octavian!

Co-habitation and abortion are Marxist policies?

Connect the dots - from A to … Lenin?

BTW, Gideongamer, i have it on good authority that Freemason Jewish Marxist Illuminati have already infiltrated the Vatican, so its too late. Being one them, i should know!

PPS I’m going to find the secret hiding place of the Holy Grail before you! Then i can open the 7th gate to Hell, which i hear is a cool thing to do.

I’d like a Pope who was pro-Life and promote love as Jesus’ greatest teaching.

Pro-stem cell research, against women giving their lives for a prospective baby, and accepting of homosexuality, in other words.
