Also helping to redress the doggo:catto balance, here’s Bolt looking very pleased with himself having conquered this fallen tree.

Despite his distinguished posing, he generally sleeps like this…

Wow, his face looks so much like my first dog’s…

Matilda is wondering that the fuck y’all’s problems with cats is.

Matilda is fine. Its just the few cat lovers photobombing the thread that needed rebalance.

I did some landscaping earlier and removed some bushes. I had not yet refilled a few of the holes. Daltrey managed to turn on the hose by himself and since the holes were downhill from the hose outlet, they filled with water. I came out to find Daltrey laying in one of the mud filled holes, chest deep in sludge grinning from ear to ear. The picture doesn’t do him justice. He looked half black lab. I had to hose him down and towel him off, a process he was none too happy with.

Admittedly she now looks like

SO CUTE

Daltrey deserves some kind of doggo award for that, especially after he went to so much effort and then you just washed it all off again!

Absolutely. I almost hated washing off that hard earned mud but it was either that or he was sleeping outside. He is a very smart and curious doggo and that’s a great thing… right up until it isnt. Still, I had a good laugh when I discovered him laying in his mud bath.

Our cat Pui watches enviously as the neighborhood cat looks for weaknesses in the perimeter.

“Of all the yards of all the houses in all the neighborhoods, she had to walk in to mine. She stole my heart and an egg or two but left with more than lingering memories of our roll in the poison ivy.”

Cool chicken coop, @carto !

I’ve seen chickens put the beat down on much larger animals but any danger for them with the curious kitty?

Nah, I’m not worried about the cat, but if it can find its way into the coop I’d be worried a raccoon or coyote could do the same.

Five years ago we found Pui (the cat in the foreground) in our chicken coop. No idea how she got there. Just walked into the backyard one day and there was a kitten frolicking with the chickens. I left her alone for a bit to see if her mom would find her but then took her in. At that point, I was afraid the chickens would get her.

Hey, if they didn’t peck her out immediately I’d say they probably were okay with her. Now she’s the chicken watcher.

Your hens look cute, though I’m guessing they were all eyes on the newcomer in the yard.

During the lock down, Lilly has enthusiastically defended my home office against backyard invasion by all known threats, including, but not limited to, birds, rabbits, squirrels and small children. As a side benefit, she prevents excess sunlight from entering the office by liberally coating the window panes with her nose.

That’s a cute pic!

Our dogs do the same but they are a little smaller than Lilly. We purchased a large U shaped sectional couch a couple of years ago and one of the sides runs against the window in the living room. The sides of the couch have a ~ 5 inch wide armrest and that area has subsequently become THE dog spot for two chihuahuas. Besides the nose prints, like yours, we also will have to replace the screens for those windows since we found in spring and late summer/early-fall when we open the windows they paw at the screens and bark at anything going by.

Still, they LOVE that spot and laying in the sun nearby on the couch. I wouldn’t take it from them for any reason. As I’m typing right now, our female is sitting on the armrest there and the sun is coming in behind her making it look like she’s a queen or something on her throne. Maybe she is.

Sorry if this is a little negative. but I’d like to talk about it. Max is getting bad.

Max is going blind. He walks into stuff. He has problems when he gets on the couch, Because he can’t see the floor to get down.

He walks into things, including my legs. If I say move Max he will unerringly walk into my leg.

It’s hard. He can find the puppy pad to poop and pee. But sometimes he decides to pee just anywhere he likes. He also whines all night. Enough to wake us both up.

Max is in trouble. He licks his paws constantly. I have heard that is essentially dog diabetes.

He has really bad eye crap. To the point that we have to muzzle him before we clean the black crap from his eyes. Max has a very strong bite. We try to avoid it. Max is declining and honestly the wife and I are dealing with a dog in his declining years.

He barks at anything. I guess that’s because he can’t see very well. So every noise calls for a bark. If I burp too loud he barks. When the wife comes home he barks. When the fridge ice maker dumps a load he barks. Sometimes he barks for no apparent reason.

I love Max. I want to get rid of Max.

It’s okay to recognize that your guy is at the end of his life, and that he’s not really having such a great time any more.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. But that’s what we sign up for when we adopt pets.

You know what the score is. That doesn’t make you a bad person.

God man that is rough. I hope Max ends up being okay.

Rich, with two older dogs here (both now 15,) I feel your pain. Be there for Max, you’re his strength now. It’s a hard thing to make the, “decision.” Once they lose the capability to control when and where they go it gets really hard. I had that with Buddy not long ago before he passed. You don’t want to cage them up but it grinds on you dealing with that day-to-day.

My neighbor had an 18 year-old dog that he had a very hard time letting go of. It was blind, deaf, had lost most of it’s teeth and was having bad liver problems. It didn’t go for walks, he carried it out to the grass and around to different spots hoping his dog would pee or poop there instead of all over in the house.

It’s very hard, man and I truly feel your pain. Hang in there, and good luck to Max.

Looks like shih-tzu? We just got one. Wishing you strength to be there for Max.

Here’s Kiwi.
