Awww… Are Matilda and the new kitty interacting much?
Quite a bit, thank you for asking. There’s still a bit of…aloofness on Matilda’s part, but they sleep near or on each other and groom each other so it’s a good trajectory we think.

I’ve had cat pairs never get that far, so sounds like they’re doing really well.
She looks seriously perky.

My snow dog is enjoying the snow.
Where’s Bytor? (bit of an obscure joke there).

We have dogs that are mostly just in the same house together, not so much friendly. Rosie, the late rescue, was 14 when we rescued her and she’s become the alpha and will bark/growl occasionally at Bear, the sweet old boy we have. There are occasions when they lay really close to each other and we’ll snap a pic, but it’s just as common in dogs that they don’t get along either.
The really amazing thing is when I see people that have mixed species pets that get along and are buddies. We had so many pets growing up but that just never seemed to happen. The dogs and cats rarely tolerated each other.
Picture tax of a very rare moment for the doggies. Napping WHILE TOUCHING!
Rosie the 16 year-old on the left, Bear the 15 year-old on the right. They are both still pretty sprightly, but Chihuahuas over age 20 aren’t rare. Bear has lost a high percentage of his hearing over the last year and he’s having a tough time with it. We’re still teaching hand symbols for him.

Not that obscure, it was exactly my first thought (which I refrained from due to thinking it was too obscure)
OK. Been intending to do this for a while, but @Misguided’s urging has pushed me over the edge. This is Charlie, one of our two F2 Savannah Cats. He is a complete and total dope. Most of the time. Then he’ll do shit like figure out how to open doors (we don’t worry about shutting him in the garage anymore, because he’ll let himself back in when he’s ready). While we haven’t weighed him in a while, he’s around 30 pounds or thereabouts, so he’s a hefty kitty.
Here we see Charlie lulling us into a false sense of calm by pretending to nap on my wife’s chair. In reality he’s waiting for us to settle down on the couch to watch a movie, at which point he will start a reign of terror on everything nearby because we’re paying attention to the TV rather than him.
As you might imagine, Charlie is pretty strongly food motivated. He’s also a picky bastard and wants samples of anything we’re making for our dinner. (Savannahs exhibit a lot of dog-like behaviors like that, honestly, including playing fetch). In this case, he knows our go-to sources when we’re looking for something new to cook, so he’s carefully guarding them in anticipation. He’s also guarding my wine fridge, which is nice.
And finally, post-dinner food comas are a regular occurrence. As is starting to roll over and not quite making it all the way before falling back asleep. In this case, he just really doesn’t give a damn, as you can tell from the “'sup, human?” expression.

30 pound cat that can open doors. I’m thinking you better not doing anything that would make him mad for long. heh.
And I quote, “What a baby!”. For the record, I can’t get our dogs to play fetch.
Thank you for posting these.
Your cat is bigger than my dog.

Charlie is awesome! And so cute.
Smart cats are somewhat worrisome. Simon seems like a big goof, but I bought an IR-operated trash can for my office because the cats were knocking my trash over to get plastic wrap and other fun chewable things. So Simon takes about a day to figure out how to set off the IR and open the lid.
Yesterday he’d opened it and was trying to get something inside, so I reached around to the back and flipped the power switch off. I look down 30 seconds later and he’s literally waving his paw back and forth over the IR sensor.
Same cat figured out how to open the plastic cat food storage container. Watched him do it right in front of me. Paw open the spout, then grip that with his mouth and remove the lid. Had to start putting it in the closed pantry.
Today’s his first birthday! He’s a Maine Coon and he looks like he’s heading towards about 3 feet and 20+ pounds.
Absolutely! Just needed a friendly nudge to get off my lazy ass and do so. :)
For the record, the other cat, the “small one” (full name being Ares the Ferocious War Kitten of Doom), is about 15 pounds and when he wants to look at what’s on the kitchen counter, he just stands up and looks rather than jumps up. It’s a little freaky sometimes.
My wife just said, and I quote, “Can we get one?”
Mwahahahaha. My work here is done! Another convert!
Seriously speaking, they are absolutely amazing kitties. Also, holy crap, they are a lot of work.
Imagine the trouble we’d all be in if cats had thumbs.
