Here’s one of the fish we have at the office, just peeking around.

Is that a Norwegian Blue? It kind of looks like hes pinin’ for the fiords.
Smaug was found wearing this hat earlier, and there were unopened presents and the remains of what looked like reindeer on the bank of his pool. I hope it was just a Santa impersonator!

Dem feels. Sorry for your loss.
Had a Fox Terrier for 17 years during my childhood, he got run over and was paralyzed for a while but recovered, then he got testicular cancer and had his balls removed so he survived that too but he was never quite the same again. (who would be?) In the end he just slept all day and moped around the house so we had to put him down. Of course on the day of driving him to the vet, he lit up like a puppy again just to make it even harder.
RIP Vimmer, he would have loved Daisy for sure.
Edit: I’ll never forget that day at the vet, an elderly couple, ahead of us in line, had their small dog put to sleep and they weren’t too happy about it either. We were in there for maybe 20 minutes and when we came out to the parking lot, the elderly couple hadn’t left yet. They were crying their hearts out just sitting in their car.
So my wife found this flapping around on the road yesterday…

This is a young tawny frogmouth, one of my favourite birds! He’s called Muppet, and currently lives in the laundry shed until he starts eating properly and is strong enough to fly on his / her own. As you can imagine, it’s not hard getting food into that mouth.
Bit cruel to nurse it to back to health, just to fatten it up to feed it to Smaug, no? ;)
I assume you will plan to nurse back and release, unless something prevents that?
What a monster you have me painted as! Of course we would not feed the poor thing to Smaug. Unless it was dead already.
I’m going to have to say goodbye tomorrow to my little friend, Dogmatix. He’s been getting progressively more frail over the past several months, and now within the last week things have gone south dramatically. His hips are going, he’s losing coordination and now bowel control. He looks at me with sad eyes, he misses out on our walks and playtime with the ball. I’m amazed at how quickly it’s happened actually. It’s no life when he’s reduced to his current state. He had a good innings, over 11 years which is good going for a GSD who was never a prime specimen to start with. We got him as an 8 week old runt puppy, bites on his nose from being bullied by his siblings, his tail tip missing because it got trapped in a door apparently (!), and hiding under anything. We took pity on him, he’s always been our Jerry, but we loved him.

Ugh, sorry to hear that krayzkrok. That is a wonderful picture. Thanks for sharing that.
I keep meaning to get a picture up of our Russian Blue cat. Best cat I have ever had and couldn’t imagine losing him.
So sorry to hear that krok.

So sorry to hear that Adam. My sympathies to you and your wife.
Horrible news. While I can tell just from that picture that he had a great life and was much loved, I also know the pain of what you’re about to go through. My deepest sympathies for your family during a awful time.
I’m sorry to hear it Adam. It’s a hard thing to do, but it’s what you have to do. Someone told me that what you’re about to do was a pet owner’s’ obligation for receiving a lifetime of love from a pet, and it made me feel much better to think of it that way. Good luck man.
And what a great shot, such a handsome dog.
That’s an amazing shot, and clearly an awesome dog.
Shit, knew I shouldn’t have opened this thread. I am sorry for your loss krazykrok, I know your pain well as I’ve been there myself. Treasure the good times, 11 years is a good run.
Sincere thanks everyone. This is going to be the hardest drive to the vet for a long time.
Ach. Will the vet make a house call? Mine will under these circumstances, which I deeply wish I’d known when the time came for my ancient moggie.
He would, but I’d prefer to drive, mainly because going for a drive in the back of the car was Matix’s favourite thing ever. The excitement of going somewhere different. I can’t think of a better note to end on.
