That sucks Lamalo. I am sorry for your loss, but seventeen is a pretty long run.

It looks like you had a great furry friend. Losing them is brutal, and I’m very sorry.

We need to invent some sort of life Feline Lifespan Elongation Elixir, losing a pet is always hard, you have my sympathies. Are you thinking of adopting a kitten? I recommend doing so, at least eventually, it will definitely help.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Losing a pet, especially one that’s been a part of your life for so long, is just so hard. Hang in there.

Oh no. Such a handsome fellow too. What was his name?
It’s amazing how much grief these little guys can cause when they die. By far, the biggest killer of house cats is kidney failure. If they live long enough, they are almost certain to have it. And that sucks.

You know, that’s the one good thing that comes from all this. It’s personally a bit too early for me to consider another cat, but I fully plan to when the time comes. A few years ago, when I had no need of another cat, the girlfriend and I wandered into the Humane Society storefront in a city about 200 miles away. My girlfriend had just had her cat put down (yep, kidney failure) a few months prior, and she was considering getting another.

Nothing really appealed to her, but boy, I tell you, I just instantly fell in love with this big old cat. I then made the mistake of holding him, and I could feel the bond forming. It was actually quite scary. I must have held him for 30 minutes while I tried to talk my girlfriend into giving him a home. He was just a middle-aged mutt, but my heart just ached for him, and I was devastated when we had to leave him behind. I thought of him often in the months that followed, hoping that he’d found a new home.

Gilies. You have to be a special sort of person, I think, to be open and available to animals in the way you just described. That was a great story. I hope that big old cat found a nice home too.

I make it a rule never, ever, to look at dogs (cats I love too, but my wife is allergic to them) that are available for adoption or sale. Because I will take them home. When we got our female poodle, we had just lost our 15 year old German Shepherd mix, and we went to ā€œjust lookā€ at a puppy. Yeah, right. Came home with Eleanor. When we got our male, last year, we had just lost our 12-year old German Shepherd boy, and we went to ā€œjust lookā€ at some poodles. Yeah, right. Came home with Bowser.

If I was rich, I’d probably have a veritable herd of poodles and German Shepherds.

Too much sadness! Here is my recently adopted six year old cat, Chloe, in her wrestling stance. All pointy bits facing in the right direction? Check!

She’s, uh, going to the vet this afternoon - she’s had an unhappy couple of days. :(

If you were really rich, you could get some boarder collies to round up all the poodles and shepherds! :)

Ooh, now that would be heavenly. Seriously, I could retire on a dog ranch quite happily.

Great picture, and a really good looking feline. Love the markings.

Yeah, what a great coat!

If my wife wasn’t allergic to kitties we’d have some to go with the hounds. I grew up with my mother being a crazy cat lady; 17 cats at the high mark, which meant a lot of litter box changing for me…

Chloe is a looker alright! We have a female calico too (I learned they come, almost exclusively, in females for some unknown reason).

I can tell from the nice pic a few things. Chloe is:

  • Part ninja (bowlegged kangaroo stance, paws loose and ready to gankya, or issue a flurry of bats, in a microsecond)
  • From the look in her eyes, a bit possessed by the devil himself
  • Already very comfortable in her new digs (your place)

PS - heart goes out to all who have lost pets, recently. Personally I ascribe to a period of mourning (out of respect for the love you shared with your pet), and then getting back on the horse. There is another animal out there with love in its heart that needs a place that only you can provide, and they will quickly win your love over too.

Google X-inactivation, so you can annoy your friends by saying ā€œthey come, almost exclusively, in females because of X-inactivationā€

And there are way more lonely animals out there than homes to go to. A healthy mourning period is to be expected, but they will remain strongly in your memory, even with new pets coming into your life.

I don’t believe in most religious stuff but I think if there is a heaven, it’s where you get to be with all of the animal friends you’ve had throughout your life.

That’s a great thought.

Unconditional love. Animals make it easy.
