In April of last year I got attacked by a pitbull/american bulldog mix. It came around a corner and charged at me almost before I even knew it was there. The owner had left his garage door open and it just wandered out. Damn thing ate a chunk of my arm the size of a golf ball and knocked me to the ground. I probably would have been killed if the owner hadn’t pulled it off me.
Here’s a pic of my arm the next day.
I don’t think it’s too gruesome but you never know
Since then I’ve become a mailman and started dealing with dogs every day. Haven’t had to use any kind of spray on one yet but from what I’ve heard the dog sprays don’t really work on larger breeds. At best it will confuse them for a moment or two but don’t count on more than that.
On a somewhat happier note. Here is the rarest of all things, a pic of all three of our cats and dog on the same couch:
Left to right, Eden “The Princess”, Gryffindor, Rogue and Darcy.
Damn JD, hope you got at least $25k for that because you deserve it.

I got nothing, though the owner did get charged and ended up in court (never heard the outcome on that. Don’t really care). He obviously didn’t have a nickle to his name from the state of his house and vehicles.
Wow, that’s messed up JD. I got to thinking that at least the dog didn’t take a bite out of me or my wife, so that’s something. That bite wound was a mess. I can only imagine how scary it was to get attacked.
I used to defend pit bulls, but recently have changed my mind. There is a lot of collected info at http://www.dogsbite.org
Here is their infographic: http://www.dogsbite.org/pdf/10-year-dog-bite-fatality-chart-dogsbiteorg.pdf
I’ll never get a pit bull after looking through the studies and bite reports on their website.
Once a breed gets in the hands of people who have no business breeding dogs, and do so for all the wrong traits, the breed itself seems to become contaminated. It’s the downside of eugenics.
To stay within the ‘attack-theme’: this is our cat, fully camouflaged, waiting to ambush me on the stairs…
Luckely we don’t need spray to chase him away :-)

Working in the post office, I see a lot of dog warnings. A lot of them are for pitbulls. A dog warning usually means someone has had some kind of bad encounter with a particular dog. Sometimes a bite, usually just aggressive behavior.
I do also meet a lot of nice dogs, which has helped a lot in getting me over my fear of them after the attack. Now I’m at the point where I will let a loose dog come up to me as long as it isn’t acting aggressive. I met some sort of poodle mix today that was very friendly (didn’t get a pic, sorry).

He blends in pretty well with those stairs. One of our cats is mostly black and a terrible coward. He likes to hide in dark corners and closets. If you’re lucky you’ll see his eyes but that’s about it.
I love dogs and can tell the non-aggressive stances from the aggressive stances (or the scared ones that can turn aggressive fast depending on your behavior). The scariest part of the research into pit bulls on that site for me is that the fatality stories very often describe a friendly family dog that has never acted out that one day gets out and goes into hunting mode and ends up killing someone. It’s fascinating and terrifying to think that the behavior is so ingrained in them that it can happen that way.

Twice I have seen my dog, who is a big, lazy sweetheart at all other times, go into “sport hunting” mode with smaller dogs who came into the dog park and immediately started acting like prey. They yelp and zip to a corner, which seems to drive all the other dogs into a frenzy, including mine. On both occasions, I’ve been surprised how much effort it took to calm him back down.
Did Scotch’s eyes change color, or is it just the light?
My girlfriend has a white exotic shorthair, and at 8 weeks, he had blue eyes, and then they changed to copper, the same shade of copper as Scotch. Great photo, BTW.
Lots of great photos in here. Keep them coming, people!

He always had that eyecolor but in the last couple of months his fur started to show the classic tabby patterns which makes me remember that youtube cat that loves sliding into boxes on the floor. https://youtu.be/rTF2lWHI2IY
I asked because in this photo and the other one you posted, his eyes look gray.
And yes, we are very familiar with Maru! We subscribe to his Youtube channel. He has a serious addiction to boxes of all kinds. Also, he can operate a pushcart.
We’ve often thought about starting a Youtube channel for our cats, but I can’t imagine anyone wanting to watch our cats, as they don’t do much. :)

Timo the Ragdoll is another fun cat to follow on Youtube.

Nah, it’s just the crappy Nexus 5 camera. His eyes were always that color.
verifies answer by checking older photos
You’re right, they were grayer when he was younger, though they changed rather fast into the current color.
That’s a great picture Jon!
Ragdolls are awesome. We have two.
At the time, the plan was to get one ragdoll and one rescue kitty, but bizarrely, the shelter only had one litter and they were ‘wild’, and I didn’t feel too comfortable with that as they would be home all day while we both worked. In the meantime, I had emailed a breeder in Rhode Island, but she had sold out, and as it was August and breeding season would be over soon I found one in northern NH instead. The same day, that RI breeder got back to me; someone returned one of her kittens because it was male and would I want him? She cleverly emailed a picture so we didn’t have a choice.

Here they are, Percy and Thea as kittens:

Percy is the one sitting up.
And now:

Percy’s other name is Mr. Awesome. He’s very expressive, with a lot of ragdoll behaviors. He follows us around, does a wicked head tilt when he’s curious, and has the most adorable ‘concern’ face (that I’ve not been able to capture on our crappy cameras.) He hates when I play computer games- he’ll meow at me incessantly until I leave. Closed doors are also public enemy #1.
Here he is outgrowing one of the computer chairs:

Percy’s big adventure. We put him on a harness and took him for a walk in the woods out back during the fall (after hopefully the ticks and fleas had disappeared; we have a bad tick problem, I’ve gotten Lyme twice in the past five years.)

Thea has a very different personality; she’s mostly quiet except when it’s time to eat. They both get along well, with neither really dominant. It’s kinda funny when they share space - they’ll do licky face for a bit and then suddenly start tussling: “I love you I love I love you I hate you!” (No action pictures sadly.)
Thea airing out her parts:

Being responsible, they are neutered and spayed. I kinda regret being responsible, a house full of ragdoll kitties would have been glorious.
