Presenting the winners of the tenth annual Quarter to Three Quarterlies

by Chris "triggercut" Hornbostel

Way back in 2006, the Quarter to Three community voted on the best games of the year. The numbers were tallied, the winners declared, and the awards weren’t handed out in an extravagant ceremony hosted by Geoff Keighley. It was our own Peoples Choice Awards, decided by the folks who hang out in the virtual spaces of our forum. We’ve been doing these annual Quarterlies ever since.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2017/01/18/presenting-winners-tenth-annual-quarter-three-quarterlies/

Very nice! I even own every game on the list! Though I haven’t played Blood and Wine, DOOM, or XCOM 2 yet. But I will soon!

Is there a list of all the games that were put up for nomination?

A 2016 best of list without Overwatch?

Hell yes.

high five

I just keep thinking “firewatch” when I am reading “overwatch”…

Needs more Quadrilateral Cowboy.

Chris, do you by any chance has a list of the all the nominees? I’d be curious to sift through them in a format more concise than the thread itself.

-Tom

If 2006 was the first year then wouldn’t these be the 11th year unless your skipped a year at some point?

Alex

Not if it was 2006’s game of the year, as the last bit of the phrase seems to imply.

We’d need someone familiar with numbers, in such an instance!

Still would be the 11th, ou le onzième si tu préfère mon ami.

Oops, that might be a casualty of my editing. Unless Chris corrects me, I think it was the 2007 vote on the games of 2006.

Math is hard.

-Tom

Still would be the 11th.

Stop now Tom, or Chappers will reveal you the darkest of our secret: we are all one year older than we are being taught :O

What part of “math is hard” did you not understand!!??/11?1?

-Tom

Milk Stout makes it easier to comprehend.

I wonder if Blood and Wine would’ve done better if everyone wasn’t still stuck trying to finish the original game and Hearts of Stone!

I’m annoyed at an expansion taking top honors, but delighted that Doom did.

Thanks triggercut, I love lists - especially ones that have The Witcher 3 at the top of it! It’s an expansion that delivers more than many full release games.

Maybe this list will get me to try Stardew Valley. Every time I think I’ll fire it up to try it I remember what it looks like and I find something else to play. Not that it looks bad, but it reminds me of JRPGs or something.

Very cool. Thanks for doing this triggercut! Kind of crazy that it ended up so close.
