Yes the United States are the bad guys in my dystopia. President Trump orders all Mexicans rounded up and deported, and all Muslims tagged. Courts say lol no, Trump says Fuck the courts do it anyway, and enthusiastic rednecks happily comply. After all, they get to use their 2nd Amendments militias finally! Never mind that they’re violating the 1st (and a bunch of others). Progressive states, like the North East, California, etc, pull the states rights card and say Mexicans can safely come there and they won’t let the feds deport them. Trump sends in the National Guard to force compliance. That’s how the Civil War starts.
Meanwhile, overseas, President Trump has to make good on his promise to deal with “Isis”. Problem is, he decides that all of Syria is Isis and just bombs the shit out of it indiscriminately, killing anyone that’s brown, because who cares Muslims they’re all dangerous. Nato goes along with it at first, because what the fuck, how do they handle it when their lead nation goes full retard? “Friendly fire” incidents with Russian and Chinese forces in the region lead to escalated tensions and conflicts in other areas. Some US generals defy orders because Trump is insane, side with Russians in some situation, and Trump orders an attack against them. Thus, WW3 begins, with a US torn by civil war and half hearted Nato on one side, and Russia, China, and couple dozen other countries on the other. Nukes are probably used (by Trump, on traitorous American cities that side with Russia against his regime), and we lose.
The entire world population is affected and a billion people die of starvation and famine as the global food supply dwindles, since the US, China, and Russia aren’t producing tons of food on their huge swaths of land and are instead trying to kill each other. We also don’t have internet anymore, because Trump made Bill Gates “close it up”.
So yeah, vote Bernie.
I’d vote for a potato instead of Trump.
My wife grew up in communist mainland China in the shadow of the Cultural Revolution, with her grandmother fleeing to the hills, forced abortions as common practice, and the intense xenophobia that still exists today (when we go back to her hometown, many of the hotels still say No Foreigners Allowed and I get a lot of dirty stares). She moved here at age 25 for education, not for political reasons. All the while I was getting a political science degree from an extremely liberal university and am vehemently in the personal freedoms camp. Makes for some interesting dinner conversations as I can never convince her of the importance of anything in the Constitution. She just doesn’t get it.
The most damning anecdotal evidence I have against Trump is that my wife fully supports him. It’s normal course of government business to her to discriminate, keep foreigners out, posture, saber rattle, etc. To her, the government has the right to trod on any personal freedoms and break any tenets of law under the auspices of “keeping us safe.”
When someone in lockstep with communist China’s government thinks you’re just a-ok as a politician, that’s a huge problem for me. It’s not what I was ever taught the USA was all about.
Bernie is the man.

Both my daughters went to CSU’s. Two different CSUs. The older one was actually very good at English and is a grammar nazi, and even she was forced into a remedial English class by the CSU. The younger one has dyslexia problems and her being put into a remedial class was no surprise.

Wow…I think you need to cut back on the coffee.
Or write the (hopefully not prescient!) novel, stat!

See? Trump unites all types of people.
The Ku Klux Klan is using Donald Trump as a talking point in its outreach efforts. Stormfront, the most prominent American white supremacist website, is upgrading its servers in part to cope with a Trump traffic spike. And former Louisiana Rep. David Duke reports that the businessman has given more Americans cover to speak out loud about white nationalism than at any time since his own political campaigns in the 1990s.
“Demoralization has been the biggest enemy and Trump is changing all that,” said Stormfront founder Don Black, who reports additional listeners and call volume to his phone-in radio show, in addition to the site’s traffic bump. Black predicts that the white nationalist forces set in motion by Trump will be a legacy that outlives the businessman’s political career. “He’s certainly creating a movement that will continue independently of him even if he does fold at some point.”

I honestly think that Trumps believes in and plans on acting on just about 0% of the stuff he says.
I know some folks who like Trump. I’ve asked them why they’d vote for him based off of the wonderful speeches that he’s given, and the answer is usually along the lines of, “He’s not going to do that. Reality TV, dude. It’s just the persona to project to get elected, but he’ll be a good break from lifetime politicians.”
Anyway, that’s reduced down quite a bit, but it seems to be the general thought process.

I’ve outlined the same thing. I suspect most Americans rooting for Trump at this point don’t literally believe he will build a wall on the border to Mexico and magically make Mexico pay for it. Nor do they think he will literally put a unilateral hold on Muslim immigration. They just like the general thrust of his rhetoric which in their interpretation boils down to “fix illegal immigration” and “keep out the terrorists.”
My issue is that the rhetoric is hurtful, illogical, and plain stupid. I find even the most charitable interpretation of his words run counter to the American future I want.
Anyway, that’s reduced down quite a bit, but it seems to be the general thought process.
But that’s crazy… “I want a break from lifetime politicans, so I will vote for someone who I assume is lying through his teeth to get elected”
Does not compute.
The Guardian had a great piece of why this is so damaging. Trump is moving the chains of acceptable rhetoric. And he’s making the US look like the fucking devil across the world. The front runner of the GOP is saying stuff like this scares the shit out of our friends and allies.

Well, it is true that Obama has fulfilled very few of his campaign promises.

Not for a lack of trying however.

When was the last time you watched, oh, let’s say a political debate, and actually thought the people talking were really going to do the things they were promising. An example is the GOP debate, how almost everyone of them wants to abolish the IRS and go to some alternate taxing system. Sure, that is going to happen.
Every State of the Union speech is seemingly filled with stuff that never happens. Every political campaign speech is full of stuff that never happens.
Of course the big difference is the level of Trump’s BS, the target of Trump’s BS. He is literally proposing stuff that violates the constitution in some instances.

I actually think Cruz would have a higher probability of that. His idea of diplomacy seems to be nuke it all…
I think the difference here, and especially with the State of the Union address, is intent. I think there’s a huge gap between trying to set and communicate your policy and philosophy and just throwing out random shit because you know some people will lap it up. This is our opportunity to try to get to know Trump and what he plans to do - I think the core problem with him is that there is nobody there to get to know and no real plan for the country.

The problem is also that Trump’s ideas are fucking horrific. I don’t give a shit if “he probably won’t do them.” WTF, why the hell would you vote for someone who even SUGGESTED such stuff? I mean, seriously, wtf is the thought process which leads to Trump being a good candidate, if the reason you have for supporting him is that he probably won’t do the absolutely horrific things he’s saying?
I’m sorry, but I think that’s a bullshit response that people give because they don’t want to admit to being bigoted fucks. They support Trump because they DO believe in those things, and they totally want him to do them, they just lack the balls to stand up and admit it.
Or (possibly worse?) they simply don’t care about other people, regardless of race.
