I guess every cloud has a silver lining. The Republicans imploding would be pretty fun to watch. Hopefully it will cause a split, and we’ll end up with the crazies in their own party, and party that actually wants to govern our nation in the second to compete with the Democrats on ideas.
Fun tidbit. Local news station WRAL is running a poll on whether or not Trump is right to call for a ban of all Muslims traveling to America.
41% say yes, unequivocally.
And this is in an area with multiple large research universities (including prestigious ones like Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill), tons of blue chip industry, and the 2nd largest enclave of dependably Blue voters in the entire hellish state of North Carolina (2nd only to blessed Charlotte, of course).
So, you know. . . that’s neat.

Not the presidency, but apparently democrats are eager to cash in on the overt xenophobia as well.
A prominent Democratic congresswoman and Senate candidate said that up to 20 percent of Muslims want to establish an Islamic caliphate and would use “terrorism” to achieve that goal.
“We know that there is a small group, and we don’t know how big that is — it can be anywhere between 5 and 20 percent, from the people that I speak to — that Islam is their religion and who have a desire for a caliphate and to institute that in any way possible," Sanchez said on “PoliticKING with Larry King.”
Yay.
If I lived there, I wouldn’t bother to answer that stupid poll. I suspect that I’m not alone in that sentiment. “Share via Facebook” is where 41% comes from, I bet.
Definitely the case that a local news station online poll is hardly rigorously scientific, but it does lead one to wonder about the neighbors…

Well on the local news radio (CBS affiliate) they had a story about how 58% of the country disagree with Trumps proposal. I wonder if it is the same poll?
In any case my initial reaction was something to the effect of ‘holy shit, only 58%? That’s scary’

Yeah, this is what I felt too. It’s disappointing that people are so willing to allow the erosion of personal liberty, as long as the oppression is against other folks.
Of course the news is going to tell everyone about some half-assed piece of shit poll they did just to rile everyone up. Fuck them.
I just did a poll. I walked into the doughnut shop and yelled, “I’m voting for Trump!” And 100% of people looked at me like I was crazy.

Geraldo Rivera said that he thinks Trump is going to be the nominee, and it’s basically going to destroy the republican party permanently.
Some tool who was talking to him said, “Unless Trump gets out the vote!” and Geraldo replied, “Without any blacks, or hispanics, or women? Sorry, there aren’t enough old white guys to go around.”
I do hear what you’re saying. I just get sick (as I’m sure I made clear – heh!) of bullshit percentages flying around. Percentages are numbers, and numbers are precious! :)
Given the antipathy most Americans have towards Islam (judging from this poll), I think it’s a fairly good sign.

I think that it’s probably ok to have an unfavorable view towards Islam. In many ways, many aspects of the religion and the beliefs it espouses are barbaric. Because it’s over a thousand years old. The same goes for the old testament stuff for Christianity (which, if you’re a good Christian, you really aren’t supposed to be paying that much attention to anyway, but the dickheads constantly do).
What’s unacceptable is to try and say they aren’t allowed to hold those beliefs, because our country is built upon the idea that people should be allowed to believe what they want, as long as they let other folks believe what they want.
I suspect that most Americans would have negative views of Catholics, Mormons, Jews, and atheists as well… albeit maybe not so stark. My assumption is that anyone will have a generally negative view of any religion/sect that is not their own.
Catholics do have that awesome pope, who might not be a classical liberal, but does seem to care about the poor and down trodden.

“Unfavorable View” is too vague to carry any meaning.

Also… “Trump-Carson, 2016!” as an independent ticket. It could happen.

I was thinking the same thing. I could get that result with the right questions from just about anything.
“Do you like when kittens shit outside the litterbox? No? Unfavorable View of Kittens.”

I agree unfavorable doesn’t mean ban the religion, take away personal rights, pretend someone is not a US citizen and basically destroy most of the values America supposedly stands for. I say supposedly because so many people seem willing to just toss them out so readily.

It’s too bad a Founding Father didn’t warn us about that very thing. Oh wait.
