As I said, the biggest problem that this is going to cause for the republicans isn’t simply that they’re going to lose the presidency.
If Trump is the nominee, they will almost certainly inspire a massive protest turn-out against him, and they will lose not only the presidency, but both houses of congress. But on some level, I almost hope for this to happen, so that the reasonable part of the GOP can say, “OK? ARE WE DONE WITH THIS EXPERIMENT NOW?”
Of course, you’ll likely have nutjob folks saying “We lost because he wasn’t crazy ENOUGH!”
Whatever. Just say Smith. It doesn’t matter. None of this matters.
Yeah, I wonder if moderate Republicans will sit this one out with a Cruz or Trump win, and Democrats will take both branches?
Moderates I know, myself included, are likely to actually vote against Trump.
Indeed, if Trump is the nominee, my current plan is to pull the big “D” lever. I’ve never voted a party ticket, EVER, in my entire time as an adult. I’ve always, in every single election, split my vote between both parties, generally leaning towards the republicans.
But if Trump is the nominee, I am going to pull the D as a pure protest vote. If that is where the party decides to go, then I want them to lose as bad as possible. I want to shatter the party so we can start picking up the pieces.
For Cruz? Meh… I won’t vote for him, but he’s at least a rational human being. He’s a dick, and his statements about things like muslims are reprehensible as well… but he at least isn’t literally offering up messages identical to Hitler. I don’t think Cruz would actually lead to some global conflict with the US as the bad guys.
