I dunno, I went to college in the 90s and literally cannot imagine any of those things occurring in class. It’s unthinkable.

Oh yea, Fresno has always had it’s race problems, I just don’t remember anything overt in college. I worked a government job while I went to school (one reason I was in college for 8 years) that was well integrated, as was my high school. But there was an area “across the tracks”, and my junior high school had walk outs by the latino kids, and Armenians living here were redlined in housing.

I’m not very old either. Late 90s early 2000s the first go around. In comparison, nothing that notable when I finished the second time around although my trip to Japan has me correcting a few people. It’s not for PC reasons… it’s just correcting misinformation. Japan is not Korea, Vietnam or China. I don’t know why some people get so upset when you point that out.

I can easily imagine it, but most of my college experience was smaller campuses with predominately white students. Community colleges and tech school situations.
Two news bits.
First, Ben Carson is getting ready to fire some people.
Carson, sitting alone Wednesday in the basement of his Maryland house, said that no one’s job is safe. He complained about budgetary management in a campaign that has spent millions and called some of his top staffers overpaid and ineffective in broadcasting his message.
“I’m looking at every aspect of the campaign right now. Everything is on the table, every job is on the table. And we’re going to analyze it very carefully,” Carson said. “It’s not perfect and we’re going to work on it.”
“I want to see more efficiency in terms of the way money is utilized,” he added, saying he is frustrated with his campaign being described as a “rat hole” for small-dollar donations.
Second, it appears the next GOP nominee debate is going to get a bit smaller.
Fox Business Network will consider both early-state and national poll results in deciding which candidates make the prime-time forum. That main debate will feature candidates who place in the top six nationally, based on an average of the five most recent national polls recognized by Fox News, or place within the top five based on an average of the five most recent Iowa or New Hampshire state polls recognized by the network.
The polls being considered must be released prior to 6 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Jan. 11, and be conducted by major nationally and state recognized organizations that use standard methodological techniques, such as live interviewers and random digit-dial sampling techniques using both landlines and cellphones.
Everyone else will go on the kiddie table debate that no one watches.
Ben Carson on his plans for campaign firings: “Just kidding!”
Ted Cruz makes a tv ad featuring his children and then complains that a cartoon making fun of him using his children as a political tool is unacceptable. Irony?
I’d agree children/family of a politician shouldn’t be targeted, but the cartoon was pretty accurate i felt, targeted cruz more than his children and Cruz “started it” by making them members of his campaign.
Ted Cruz’ tv ad was pretty funny though i will admit.
Now again he is using his children to raise money. Despicable, but typical Cruz.

What’s really funny about Cruz is that he then distributed the cartoon himself, to beg for campaign contributions.
Which seems pretty disingenuous to me.

He’s consistently despicable. But even if he treats his kids as campaign props, the media should probably leave them alone. Even if the cartoon wasn’t cruel, that’s a door best left closed.
It’s not their fault that pop’s an asshat demagogue. He’s a jerk, but they’re still little kids.

I don’t like seeing children of any age being attacked, even if the same people who are defending these two girls had no problem with Obama’s children being targets. Still, if he really finds the cartoon offensive, he shouldn’t distribute it to raise money. I agree with Timex.
Rand Paul gave out a long list of grievances on Twitter for a Seinfeld-style Festivus this year.
I agree, but i’d still argue that my personal interpretation of the comic is that Cruz is using his children like monkeys to further his political ambitions. I do feel this was originally probably true and now after his actions after the comic, is without a doubt true.
While the ad was funny, he did basically have his kids in a political attack ad. I don’t think it is unreasonable to call him out on that. My reaction would be different if the media attacked his children or made fun of them, even after his actions.

Yeah the carton was really an attack on Cruz rather than his kids.
This is actually worth reading for the occasional (intentional) comedy:

Yes, there are more areas of agreement between Rand Paul’s policies and mine than almost any other Republican candidate. His budget stuff I take issue with, but his stance on things like the NSA and foreign interventionism are sorely needed arguments.
The NSA one was great.
Americans will elect the 45th President of the United States on November 8, 2016. President Barack Obama is ineligible for re-election due to term limits established in the Constitution. The winner of the 2016 presidential election will be sworn into office on January 20, 2017.
