FL governor Rick Scott comes out in support of Trump. Not an official endorsement, but pretty close.
I know Donald Trump personally, and while I currently have no plans to endorse a candidate before Florida’s March presidential primary, there is no doubt that Donald is a man who speaks and tweets his mind freely. But I don’t think his ability to give the most interesting interviews or speeches is the only thing that has him leading in the polls. I think he is capturing the frustration of many Americans after seven years of President Obama’s very intentional government takeover of the U.S. economy.
Makes sense. He’s another guy who used his (presumably ill-gotten) gains in order to put himself in a position of power. The rich guy self-financed politician demographic.

Yeah but birthplace is not the only qualifications to be a natural born US citizen. Your parents have a lot to do with it too.

Trump has picked a fight with Samuel L. Jackson, who is seemingly eager to fight with him.
Biff Tannen from BttF 2 was based on him :)

But children born there ARE considered natural born citizens.

Well, only if their parents are citizens of the US. McCain, for instance, is a citizen because his parents were, not because they gave birth to him on the base. The base doesn’t really have much to do with anything, I don’t think.
This is in contrast to american soil, where if you come here and give birth, your child is an American citizen even if you are not.

True, I worded that very poorly.

And I thought his mother was a US Citizen… why are we talking about this again?
I should have also noted, I am guessing a lot of American’s don’t know the part about you not having to be born on US soil. A lot of them probably think it has to do with the base.

Because Trump doesn’t understand laws or the Constitution. And apparently McCain can’t be bothered to read the details either.
Though to be fair, I’m pretty sure Cruz doesn’t know anything about the document himself.

Cruz is a constitutional scholar and has presented cases before the supreme Court nine times, so he actually does know a great deal about the Constitution, even if he says shit to pander to people who do not.
But yes, the answer to why is this an issue is because trump is not at all bound by reality or the law. He doesn’t know anything about any of this shit.

I’d bet my car McCain understands the issue. He just hates Ted Cruz, so he’s happy to join in the trolling.

The Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court presumably knows the Constitution, and yet…
It’s all hilarious…until you remember the rest of the world is watching this fiasco.
I don’t know, Cruz is so polished at misleading without lying, when he panders, that even when I know he what he is doing I have to give the guy style points.
I think the basic honestly level is similar between Hillary and Cruz. But Americans have decades to mistrust the Clintons (even while personally liking Bill), Cruz might be able to fool lots of a people for a 6 month period.
This is the best, funniest and most accurate thing I have read all day. I was laughing for two minutes after reading it.
Which is kind of terrifying when you realize that he will be the Republican candidate for President of the United States.**
This is almost certainly true.
**Robert Reich always paraphrases conversations he’s had with Republican friends on Facebook and I always wonder if they are apocryphal or not. He posted an interesting one last week from a friend with ties to the RNC who said essentially, “We will wait until the deadline to file as an independent has passed and then we will change the rules of the convention so that we can nominate who we damn well please and flush Trump and Cruz down the toilet.” There is absolutely nothing stopping them from doing this save the wrath of their base but if they pick someone sane, with a chance of winning, like Rubio, I’m guessing they’ll survive. They will likely alienate enough people to lose the election but the party would survive to fight another day as opposed to descending into an irrelevant laughing stock.
What would really be fucked up would be if Bernie upset Clinton and the Dems did the same thing. That would certainly put any doubts to rest as to whether or not we are still a democracy.
The scary thing about Trump’s supporters (and that wing of the GOP):
One way to understand Trump’s longevity is to look more closely at his supporters. Trump’s backers tend to be whiter, slightly older and less educated than the average Republican voter. But perhaps more importantly, his supporters have shown signs of being misinformed. Political science research has shown that the behavior of misinformed citizens is different from those who are uninformed, and this difference may explain Trump’s unusual staying power…
…As Kuklinski and his colleagues established, in the U.S., the most misinformed citizens tend to be the most confident in their views and are also the strongest partisans. These folks fill the gaps in their knowledge base by using their existing belief systems. Once these inferences are stored into memory, they become “indistinguishable from hard data,” Kuklinski and his colleagues found.
Kind of like Climate Change, or Thanks, Obama!
I think that Jackson couldn’t have done more to help Trump’s campaign… hell not if he came out to openly support him… Not smart really.
From the perspective that the best way to help the Democratic Party up and down the ticket in 2016 is to get Trump at the top of it, it seems fine.
