LMAO - yeah, um … no. I understand the Game Theory approach; kind of like in the Price Is Right, if you’re going last you want to go one dollar less than your opponent. But that’s never going to happen in a million years.
The fuck? That’s some ridiculous shit.
Kasich is no moderate. The terms of an alliance with Clinton would be dicey to work out. But if Trump is the nominee, Kasich has more to gain than lose from switching sides and could become a real hero figure to actual conservatives who could seem his as a moderating force in the White House. Meanwhile progressive Democrats, of which Hillary is not one, will nonetheless vote for Clinton/Kasich because, as I said, we’re a pragmatic bunch and we still want a Democrat to win more than Donald Trump or Ted Cruz.

While I think the suggestion is preposterous, I would vote for a Clinton/Kasich ticket in a heartbeat.
Especially given that Mrs. Clinton needs to shore up her bona fides within her own party. Picking Kasich (or the other rumor du jour) Bloomberg as a running mate sends a very bad message to a base she’ll need to fire up.

You want to go one dollar MORE.

If you wanted to create a left leaning mirror image of the Tea Party, that’s how you would go about doing it. That would rightly piss off a whole bunch of people. The Progressive side would form their own splinter group, because this would effectively be a big ‘fuck you’ to them from the DNC.
How insane is it that given the way things look to be going, it’s likely going to be the choice of running mate that decides how a lot of votes fall for the presidential election? Neither party’s mainstream is particularly happy with their front runner at this point, so the choice of whom to pair them with becomes far more critical than usual. Will half the nation be voting for a Vice President and then hoping for the unthinkable?
Stating the obvious I know, but American politics are so fucked up right now. We desperately need a third party that people can identify with.

Who could Hillary pick (from the Dem side) that would make any effect on her campaign? I think with her it is all about Hillary. And on the GOP side I think if it is Trump it will be all about Trump. If Rubio or Cruz…eh, maybe the VP means something.

I agree, but the structural foundations of our elections make the rise of such a third party nearly impossible. We would need some type of parliamentary style elections for that to be feasible. In a first past the pole system it is almost impossible for third parties to win an election. It’s why Libertarians, as actual politicians, are mostly part of the Republican tickets, and Greens are part of Democrats. Both parties exist as independent entities, but outside of some local elections hold no power, and send candidates forward as part of a larger party.
Hillary should just pick Biden. I’m not sure that I’m completely ready for terrifying shots of him vice-gripping women and leering over their shoulders to stop popping up every couple of months.
Given the recent vocabulary hubbub, I feel like it’s important that I clarify that I mean that in the same way that I’m not quite ready to stop watching crazy hurricane disaster videos, because the vice-cripping and leering are not positive things.
Yeah screw Hillary/Kasich. That would be a slap in the face to basically everyone who likes Bernie at all because it would be yet another compromise between a center left position and a FAR right position. The end result of that is NOT the center.
I don’t believe that Hillary will do any of the Bernie related reforms she gives lip service to as is, but there would be even less chance with a Neo Con VP.
If Bernie gets the nod, i would think he would want a more center left VP, but Hillary needs a decently Left VP, in my opinion.
DOH! Thanks - at least you knew what I was talking about, lol.
That suggestion has certainly made the rounds - “VP for Life” kinds of stuff.
I do agree that she needs a strong Left VP pick to boost turnout. I just don’t know who would do it. If I recall correctly, didn’t Warren - who I think would be a logical choice - turn down the suggestion?
Kamala Harris would be a great choice, if it wouldn’t throw her Senate race into all kinds of turmoil.
Yes, I think Warren (rightly) wants to stick around in Congress for now. Sanders has said he’s running for the Presidency or bust, and I’m not sure that pick would “look” right after what’s wound up being a somewhat unpleasant (for Democrats) campaign between the two.
IMO, there aren’t a lot of fabulous picks out there for her, which I think is ground we’ve covered here as well. e.g. not a lot of powerful, nationally recognized Dems beloved in Florida or Ohio, for the Electoral-College-magic-pick; not a lot of nationally recognized, beloved Congresscritters that can be pulled without upsetting Legislative branch math in a nasty way, and a surprising dearth of notable Democratic governors since the Republicans swept state houses a few years back. Deval Patrick got bandied around at that time, and despite the usual bits of Massachusetts political cruft clinging to him, he might not be a terrible choice.
I think Hillary would go Latino for a vp. Biden world be a good choice for bernie. Trump would need someone with govt experience, maybe Boehner, cruz would probably go psycho, like Palin. Rubio could go a lot of ways, but the most intriguing would be Trump.

I’ve seen suggestions that someone like Tim Kaine would be the direction to go. Democratic former governor of an electorally important state. Most critically it would not create a House or Senate vacancy that a Republican governor would fill (which outright disqualifies Harris).
CA’s gov is Jerry Brown, a Democrat. He would likely appoint Gavin Newsom or Villaraigosa.
As AG, but she’s running for a Senate seat.

Ah, I was thinking of someone else then. I saw some names of D senators in R governor states

The problem with that is that I don’t know if Harris could be on the ballot in two places, as Senate and VP candidate. And while Brown could maybe appoint a temporary there would have to be a special election for the spot I think. But I don’t know that Harris has enough experience for a VP spot, sure she is black but she has only been AG for 2 years I think.
I do think the senate seat is safely democratic though regardless of who runs for it.
