Prey 2

We should hear details soon. I wonder if Whitta did the script? He did the script for the first one and Gary was hinting that one of his game related projects was to be annouced soon.

I liked Prey, cool!

Gary Whitta did the scripts? I mostly liked the plot, except the cop out at the end. Ending the story sacrificing himself crashing in the sun would have been an excellent ending.

As I recall his script wasn’t used in the end product.

I can’t even really remember what the hell happened at the end of the first game.

The hero gives a big speech about how if the Cherokee mystics had a trick that makes them immortal then why were they wiped out by the white man and comes to the conclusion that he’s on drugs and imagined the whole game.

Nothing worth remembering.

I suppose not. But it was one of the few games that I played through to the end. There’s something to say about that, at least, since the environments were compelling enough to go through. I sorta wish the “puzzles” weren’t so insultingly easy, though.

Really? I thought the game really dragged at the end, I just forced myself through those final sections. When I saw the blueprint of the tower and how little I had ascended I almost cried.

I can’t imagine anyone is clamoring for Prey 2. What’s next, Shadow Warrior?

Prey had one of the best introductions in any fps and the Art Bell radio segments were great. Beyond that it was a competent fps that has a unique way of dealing with the death penalty. The story got really bad towards the end (especially when you met up with your girlfriend) but it managed to redeem itself slightly at the very end which lead into a cliffhanger. I will play another Prey, especially if Gary Whitta is on the job.

Yeah, the intro set piece with Don’t Fear the Reaper playing was a cool experience.

Prey ending , for just about all of us , who forgot it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxNEFIcQIlA

Heh… Not that I have more than vague memories of either, but I do remember thinking both were lots of fun. So yeah. Bring on the sequels :D

Prey really had a great demo, but there wasn’t much worthwhile beyond it.

Yes please.

This is really the only thing I remember about the game. I loved it. I thought it was one of the most memorable moments I’ve experienced in gaming. Unfortunately, the rest of the game was a complete snooze. I guess it would be tough for any game to live up to the abduction jukebox sequence, but it was so completely lame and by-the-numbers.

As for Prey 2… Sure. Why not? As long as I get to buy it for $5 during a Steam sale like the original.

Funny, i didn’t feel anything special with that moment, i didn’t know the song as to guess the reference. But the game was full of awesome moments, big scenarios, eye popping set pieces, so imo it’s a bit weird your comment about “complete snooze”. In the end, YMMV.

4 years after playing the game i remember the spirit walking, wall waking, of course the portals and some interesting mazes to do with them, the mini planets, the puzzle with the rotating cube, the first fight against the guardian, the later fight against multiple guardians with the crazy sun beam weapon, the moment the overmind kills a hall full of Guardians just to show you how little important you are, the final fight itself, the fight with the minigun alien, the part with the spirit-evil childs, the big core in the inner sphere, the part the plane crashes inside the alien world and you visit later, a few moments with the little ship you can control with huge landscapes, etc.

About the plot, i liked how even being the typical “rescue your girl” story so stereotyped was well plotted and paced, with the right moments here and there. Simple story, well executed. The “discover your indian heritage and be proud of it” was meh, and the end was a copout, making the main character sacrifice without value.

Of course it can be improved. Combat was a bit too restricted because the tight corridors, like in Bioshock you couldn’t lose thanks to the reviving system, the gameplay didn’t exploited the portal idea as much as Portal, of course, etc etc.

That’s really it. I certainly didn’t find anything you noted to be either that memorable or even fun. I just remember a cliche “go save the princess” plot sprinkled with faux Native American voodoo and some terrible setpieces. Oh, and I guess there was some wall-walking on glowing sidewalks.

I’m not complaining, really. I got my $5 out of it.

Prey was a great game. It was fun, and there was some amazing use of technology. Like that level that is portalized inside a bottle, or these gravity puzzles.
