But what if you’re looking for quality?
If you’re not enthralled by first person shooters, I don’t think there’s any reason to own an Xbox. I think every other console (including the GBA) has a larger quantity of higher quality original titles than the XBox. If you want the best version of multiplatform games, then the XBox is indeed the best platform.

…of the hardware or of the games on the system?
because if you mean the latter, the xbox loses. badly.
which sucks for me because i own one.
That’s one of my favorite PA comics.
Quality of games varies. I’m not so enthralled by the PS2 (what a surprise) but it has a few games I like, otherwise I think the XBox is a superior console. In the last few months some great games have come out for the box: Spider-Man 2, Psi-ops, Riddick and so on. you can get spides on ps2 as well, but Riddick is fantastic and so is Halo. And here’s a prediction, Halo 2 will rock.
I haven’t seen anyone mention…
Mark of Kri
or Onimusha series
On any platform Beyond Good & Evil would be great.
Yeah.
One of my friends has been playing it on XBox and has suffered through a number of lockups when they die in the game. I’m not sure if others have experienced this, but I don’t recall any lockups when playing the GameCube version. Another friend played through on the PS2 without incident.
But, to dogpile on the BG&E praise, it is an amazingly great game.

Halo is bad.
I’m not sure what you’re covering under “and so on,” but I hope it’s more cross-platform stuff like SM2 and Psi-ops.
I don’t consider most of that cross-platform because the others are terrible in comparison. And Halo is awesome.
That’s a pretty fanboi thing to say.
Ok, so the PS2 is a superior machine hardware wise?
Did I say that?
My comment about the cross platform games was in ref to the fact that games look better on the XBox.
very true. but that’s about all the xbox has is going for it…
Mod it. it’s worth it.
Now that you have a PS2 and bought it for Disgaea, if you end up really enjoying that game, be on the lookout for this totally under-the-radar Nippon Ichi release which has been surprising everyone over here lately.
Its called Dowark’s Revenge, and its yet another SRPG. While the world of Disgaea was about set in hell and about angels and demons, and Phantom Brave revolved around phantoms, this one is set around a race of troll-like creatures called Dowarks.
The setup is that each contingent of the Dowarks is fighting the others. The reason? Despite an incredible wealth of natural resources and treasures in each land, each tribe of Dowark cannot stand the other’s having theirs. So they all conspire to destroy each other, motivated by an ancient conflict called the Hardwar.
Typical of Nippon Ichi, they go to subvert yet another of the genre’s rules. This time its because the AI on all sides is incredibly stupid. Thus, even more never-ending replay value as the war never ends.
More info as it becomes available.

I haven’t played Psi-Ops on the PS2 but I hear it holds up pretty well and certainly not “terrible in comparison.” Same for Spidey 2. Yes the Xbox version is visually superior (and I generally buy the Xbox port for most multi-platform games) but most of the time playing the PS2 version isn’t that much of a step down.
My Xbox version of BG&E played perfectly.
Why mod the xbox?
