“I’m an asshole” would give you the same effect and be simpler.[/quote]
I am an asshole, but I think my lack of $250 now or anytime in the future has more to do with my PSP purchasing decision. In fact, I’d say that being an asshole really has nothing to do with it, because I happen to know other people who did buy PSP’s, and they’re assholes, too.
Failing to buy a PSP doesn’t make you an asshole – heck, I haven’t bought one either (although as it happens, I am also an asshole, so maybe I’m not such a good example). Dropping in on a thread among PSP owners to make sure they know how stupid you think PSPs are, makes you an asshole. It’s like the EQ2 threads – for ages nobody could start one without some jacktard jumping in to say “WOW OWNZ EQ2 IS TEH LAME.”
Not quite the same. I mean, WoW does own EQ2 and EQ2 is lame and all.
;)

And PSP’s are stupid as well.
Now that we have those bases covered…
Shit, that makes two assholes that didn’t buy a PSP between the two of us. Maybe there actually is a trend there? ;)
Hi, I’m RickH. I’m a PSP owner…and I’m an asshole.
I am also an asshole, and I own a PSP. Doesn’t seem to be a correlation one way or the other, although I can definitely tell you that Rywill is a much bigger asshole than I am.
What I find interesting is that not a single person here has mentioned UMD movies as a plus for the system. Yet, UMD movies are on the verge of outselling games for the PSP, and Sony has said before (and will again) that the PSP isn’t a game machine. Playing games is just something you can do with it. Their projections for game sales vs. movie sales look like DS vs. XBox sales in Japan.
Low-res movies that won’t play on anything else, forcing you to choose between a DVD that you can watch at home, a UMD you can watch on the go, or buying the same movie twice == plus?
Yeah, I don’t get the whole UMD movie thing. I guess I’d maybe think about buying them if they were like $10 but that’s it.
Basically, Netflix + DVDDecrypter + PSPVideo9 = luv. GameFly is renting UMD movies now, if I cared to give them a shot.
Also, jumping on the “Asshole + PSP” bandwagon.
I’ve rented them, and I also noticed the DVd rental things in airports now carry them. So its nice to be able to play ‘em, but there isnt any reason to own them. My ripped dvds look decent enough (I guess a lil’ better than my crappy VCR or abnout the same as my lousy cable) playing off the MS.
I didn’t say they were great or awful. I don’t own a PSP. I was merely pointing out that nobody had mentioned it, while the general public has voted thumbs up on them to the tune of almost 10 million sold, slightly less than the number of games.
I guess it pretty clearly speaks to the gap between what the folks here expect from the PSP (games) and what Sony expects from it (movies/games/music, probably in that order).
Is that a sell-in number, or a sell-through number? I see a heck of a lot of movies sitting on the retail shelves.
Sony only talks in sell-in, not sell-through, so it’s likely to be ten million on shelves with some smaller number sold through.

“I did not know that.”
FYI- 2.0 users can finally downgrade to 1.5 and check out homebrew or be jerks and pirate PSP games. Of course those piracy tools are super cool (kind of like daemon tools) and let you trade memstick space for crazily decreased laod times. As in, untold legends is playable now, makes its loads like 5 seconds instead of 50, and the battery lasts a long time. Shame sony didnt have some rockin’ DRM, they could have skipped discs had online game distro, the whole setup for the console would have been better (huge difference in me actually playing untold legends vs. never bothering to even bring my umd with me)
Anyways, any psp news site will have loads of links for the downgrader, and it actually does work. I highly highly reccomend the tg16 and negeocd emus.

I might need to get a PSP now…
