I’m thinking that we should organize ourselves a little bit as far as Frozen Cortex is concerned. How about a Circle tournament? You’d play two games per round, and if you lose two, you’re out. We’ve done this a bunch in Ascension, but never in the leaguelet thread.

Any objections? Would you rather play FFA style like we do for the other leaguelets?

I like the circle idea myself, seems to move a lot faster. This way the losing will be over quickly for me, no need to prolong it.

CR playoff: belouski > sharaleo

This was a truly epic game with a real surprise ending. Can someone recommend the easiest way to upload a match to YouTube? It is supposed to be fixed in CR now, and I think this game may warrant it. Sharaleo had me on the run for the entire game, but I was able to get three lucky kills in the last turn to win.

I wonder if I had teleported, if you may have just eeked through on VP anyway, with two kills that last turn. Would have been very, very close. Think it was 97-88 as you rolled into turn 20 because my two elves, wizard and unicorn could not cut down a damn magic tree two turns on the trot! Once you had the elephants out and time was ticking down, I kind of kept distance to take the VP win. No way I was risking getting too close to your battlemage.

Incidentally, I have just used Fraps to get CR onto youtube. But maybe you could also try the GeForce experience recording thing if you are an Nvidia customer, or perhaps Steam Broadcasting may do the trick less painfully.

Thanks, I’ll start with Steam Broadcasting if you think that the easiest. I struggle to capture screenshots, so this will be a major technological advance for me if I can pull it off.

I’m not sure about the points either going into that last round. I’m not even sure how much kills are worth?

CR (league, not playoff):

Thraeg > Belouski. Chased him in a circle around the entire map. Never caught up, but managed to destroy enough stuff on the way (including my lone dwarf shrugging off multiple rounds of attacks and taking out his elephant) to win by VPs. gg.

Steam broadcasting only seems to work if someone jumps in to watch you play. It doesn’t appear to allow you to save anything.

Nvidia says it’s only compatible with certain games, so maybe it isn’t with CR. I couldn’t seem to get it to record at least.

Finally, I found MSI Afterburner as another potential recorder, but couldn’t get it figured out.

Exhausting my efforts at doing it for free, I think I’m unprepared to spend any money on it. You’ll just have to trust us, it was epic. Also, I hope no one is discouraged from trying to get any of the above to work. I’m completely incompetent with most computer stuff and could be missing the obvious.

I’ve had to externally record a Frozen Cortex replay because the replays aren’t exporting to Youtube properly (I really ought to follow up my email to Mode7 about that…). I use MSI Afterburner to record a big-ass video on another drive (this doesn’t hammer my FPS then – not such an issue with replays!), then I run it through the excellent Freemake Video Converter (something like .mkv makes it really small without sacrificing much image quality), and then upload it to Youtube from there. Easy peasy! You might have to mess around with the MSI Afterburner settings to get a good balance between quality/memory footprint though. All free with no watermarks!

That all said, how do you intend to overcome the CR bug where it resets playback to the results screen? Krok mentioned it earlier and I thought I’d found a way around it but it seems to always snap back. Has it been addressed or something?

Watching the replay made me remember it was indeed quite the epic game.

What you can’t see in the replay is the teleport spell I still had in my hand on turn 20. After holding on to it all game, there was no reason for me not to use it and get out of dodge, just in case. No idea why I didn’t. If I had, I would have had the win on VP by two points, assuming my dwarf and unicorn still went down! Great game.
