Ugh. I need to be more careful about checking ranges on everything. The plan to draw your minions over to one side and teleport to the other was probably sound. The execution of landing within reach of 2 rats led to, well, an execution.

CR question: I had a manticore up on a nice perch, with Thraeg’s wizard a couple of hexes away and below. I wanted the manticore to use its ranged attack, but it hopped down and ran up next to the wizard. Is there some special way to tell it to stay put and fire? Or am I misconstruing what a manticore can do?

You may not have had line of sight due to the tree in the way. If you have a choice of which attack to use or where to attack from, it will show a range of success percentages. If you have a valid ranged attack, then just clicking on the target uses the ranged attack, and you would have to manually move if you wanted to melee. But if you don’t have a clear shot, then clicking on the target will have you move into range (though then you still need to click again to confirm).
