The epic struggle for The City That Wins The Game ended up tied, but I got all the supplies. GG.

I should probably spend some time playing the Chaos AI opponent. Now that I’m not given only level 1 noob spells, I keep getting stuff and have no idea what it does or how it works. Plus, what is the point of successfully summoning a vampire the first time I’ve ever had one in my hand, if it is just going to roll over and get killed by a wimpy skeleton, after failing to dispatch said wimp???

Thraeg > Gruntled.

You can always read the description of anything you’re not sure about. The only issue with the vampire was summoning it in range of the skeleton, when you could have put it one space back and then moved to attack on the next turn. Sometimes that’s just how the dice roll. Earlier in the match, you did summon several guys that couldn’t do anything about the skeleton, which played into my hands. If you don’t have an undead, an attack spell, a spider, or a paladin, you might have been better off backing off earlier and building up forces.

The earlier summons were just cannon-fodder blockers. They slowed you up so I was able to grab the center mana sprite, then back up to the rear one. That part of the plan was sound. I had both the vampire and a hydra card and was hoping to succeed with at least one (which is what happened). The downside (and just part of the way the game works) is the rather high frequency with which the cheap easy summons can defeat the expensive powerful ones. I don’t think I like that part of the way the game works, because I’m more used to games like Dominions, where biding your time to get powerful troops is a good strategy so long as you plan to avoid getting overrun by the cheap early stuff. But I’m still a beginner, maybe the power balance will eventually click for me in a positive way.

There’s somebody here named Gruntled? That. Is. Awesome.

Yeah, since any attack has a percentage chance to kill the target, high-level creatures can’t be relied on to fight through lots of cannon fodder, but have to be used somewhat more carefully. They’ll still win more often than not (the skeleton only had a 33% success chance on its attack), but it’s all about managing risk and knowing when it’s worth taking the chances. Vampires in particular have low-ish stats to begin with, and get scarier after they’ve gotten a couple of kills and absorbed energy.

Also, keep in mind that I was harvesting mana for killing your creatures, so while the cannon fodder let you get the central sprite, I wound up with a good fraction of the mana you did from it, and was able to use my wizard’s spellcasting turns for other stuff in the meantime.

He survived three dragon attacks (at least two were melee, not breath) and didn’t even have a shield. He managed to summon a hydra, only for it to be killed by a lowly skeleton. That was really low odds (9% maybe). It should have been a more noble death than to succumb to the gob.

197001 for a rematch?
197003 for anyone and any reason.

So begins the Capitals leaguelet! More details to follow. Also, a full closeout of May, plus playoffs.

Once that Capitals game ends, I’ll let everyone know how they can start to participate.

So is Capitals more of your filthy iOS-only garbage? It’s utterly ungoogleable thanks to being such a common term, and even “Capitals game” only gets a bunch of stuff about the Washington Capitals hockey team.

According to the QP3 (the Quartertothree Pew Pew Protocol), only two shall make the finals for May, and it’s clear that it is:

[1] clyve
[2] robthomasson

Four people qualify for the playoffs for Lost Cities in May, and they are:

[1] Dave
[4] Joe Bolt

[2] fire
[3] prolix

Perhaps a bit sad that these are actually also the only four players to have reached the minimum 3 games in the month required by the QP3. :) We do what we can!

Only one player (Beatrix) played 3+ games of Nightfall in the month of May, so that leaguelet won’t have playoffs.
