I made an Over the Hill challenge for you, belouski, if you’d like to play me.

pw = “qto3”

Also, you should join our Slack channel because you will get a lot more gaming in if you do. Or maybe you hate games! :)

Why does Slitherine refer to its PBEM as “revolutionary”?

It sends you an email when it’s your turn.

This is zero percent mind-blowing.

Dude, it’s not just PBEM, it’s PBEM++. That’s two whole pluses! As a math teacher, I would think that you of all people would understand just how revolutionary a plus is. My mind is blown at how your mind is not blown.

But seriously, I’ve played Dominions IV and Solium Infernum, where PBEM means “write an email to the next player, go find the save file in the game folder somewhere and attach it to the email manually, and when he receives it he has to download the file and manually put it in the right spot in the game folder”. If their standard of comparison is old wargames using that system, then the hyperbole is justified. Less so in the modern age of stuff like Frozen Synapse and Steam notifications, admittedly.

Okay then, my mind is blown++!

Lost Cities:

TheDukester def. Banana Split.

And felt good about it.

CR:

Thraeg defeats Belouski

The opposite of last game, as every roll I made succeeded (summoned Elf, cast Magic Attack Decree, Decree killed Belouski’s Manticore out from under him, Elf impaled him).

Sent a PM to clyve for Slack, because I don’t hate games. Is there anything else I need to do in the process?

I accept your Over the Hill challenge. And what Slitherine game sends you emails when it is your turn? I’m not getting them for BA.

Thraeg, and anyone else, I have two CR games open

Why aren’t you playing your CR turn Dave? Is it some sort of coercion to get me to join Slack? Or maybe you only play PBEM++ games nowadays?

Go log in at http://www.slitherine.com/my_page with the account you registered, and you can turn the notifications on.

And joined that game.

Thanks, I did just that.

Yay, you’re joining Slack! All you have to do besides sending Clyve a PM is remove your pants before logging in.

I haven’t been playing CR because it’s way down there on the list of games that I’m interested in. :( I think that once my current games of CR are done, I’ll just hibernate on CR until the game is finished. Like someone said earlier (maybe Joe?) I don’t want to burn out on it before it’s even officially out.

I might do the same with CR. I’m finding that the lack of asymmetric staff types from the original mode we started playing is really sapping the fun for me.

By the way, with the summer sale in its last day, I’m going to pick up two more light wargames with async modes at 85% discounts. Have been enjoying playing BA with you guys, and am up for trying multiplayer in either of these should any of you choose to join me.

First is a completely safe bet, Unity of Command, bundled with both expansions for a total of $4.49. This is the official wargame of Three Moves Ahead, RPS’s #22 greatest strategy game of all time, universally recommended in the wargame thread, and the recipient of a multiplayer “Tim vs. Bruce” diary right here on qt3 for a good description of how multiplayer plays out.

Next is the sci-fi themed Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders. This has a more checkered history, with a failed kickstarter and mixed reviews mostly dating from a rough early access period. But it has some neat ideas with cards and dice that you can assign to the battlefield to help with the most critical parts of each turn, I liked the team’s previous game Sword of the Stars: The Pit, and more recent reviews say it really came together at launch. And at $2, it’s not much of a risk if I turn out not to like it.

Disc Drivin’

rob > Joe B

Fortune smiled upon me as needed - each race against Joe is tougher than the one before.

Let us know what you think of those games, Rob!

LC

Beatrix > Craiggiarg

April Lost Cities championship: Dave defeats tecwrtr. Possibly my greatest LC moment, as she STRIKES the FEAR in me.

Disc: Dave > Rob, which hardly ever happens either
Capitals: Dave > Rob from June 13
Capitals: Dave > craig from that same day
Disc: Dave > Rob and Zebra and craig (also a tiara challenge on Slack!)

Couple of questions:

 1. The Frozen Cortex circle tourney got buried DEEP because games took forever to finish. If anyone involved (Rob, Joe, geggis) have got any idea where that stands, lemme know.

 2. Did Joe Bolt and TheDukester ever play their Lost Cities playoff for May? And what about the other playoff game for Lost Cities?

 3. I shouldn’t have made Capitals a ladder. Too much work. Screw the ladder! We’ll just count Capitals like a usual leaguelet, and have playoffs at the end of each month.

I got eliminated in the first round, but would be up for playing more at some point.

(As per your OP) the Frozen Cortex circle was at Round 2 with …

bobm
geggis
robthomasson
joe bolt

Using Match History I find …

bobm v geggis - won by geggis
geggis v robthomasson - won by geggis
robthomasson v joe bolt - won by robthomasson
joe bolt v bobm - not played

Other Status Note -

The current Carcassonne playoff between clyve and myself is in progress but clyve did let us know that he was cutting back and thus the game is moving forward but slowly.

CR: belouski > Gruntled

Moderately lucky 43% elfshot.

Rematch?
