Qt3 Movie Podcast: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It's true that kids these days have too many easy ways to access porn.
What does it matter that they see a nipple or two in a movie when they can go online and find actual full-on hardcore porn in 5 seconds.
I'm not a parent yet but I sometimes wonder how do you deal with that paradox.

Just a tip: I don't know if it's a language issue (I'm not native english speaker myself btw) but you come across as very aggressive and confrontational, and not as actually wanting to discuss the movie.

Did you like the Dawn of Justice? I did quite a bit, but I can see where people that see it as flawed come from.

kelly's The Martian callout makes me wonder if he saw this.. ugh... jimmy kimmel sketch about batman superman

https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

it somehow makes the scene its spoofing worth having seen

I just re-watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens last night (dollar theaters FTW!). Tom, the Quad Jumper, though not Rey's speeder, is an actual thing! It's what Rey calls the ship they're running toward on Jakku before having to choose the Millennium Falcon.

I think I'll pass. I prefer my discussions with people who have the social grace not to open with an insult. It also helps if they want to discuss something I've *actually* said rather than something they *think* I've said.

Vindicated!

"Ghibli" is actually debatable with regards to how it's pronounced. The inspiration for the studio's name, a World War 2-era Italian airplane, is pronounced GEE-blee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... ). The Japanese rendering of it in kana, however, is jih-boo-ree ( ジブリ ). Most people take the middle ground between those two versions and pronounce it JEE-blee, but I don't think anyone would give you crap for going with the original Italian pronunciation, which is what I've always used.

Speaking of Ghibli, I hope it isn't going to be much longer before you send in more anime 3x3 picks, Gormongous.

I love that you know this! :)

Especially if it's a 3x3 that Kellywand is reading.

I can understand. Im really sorry. Should have known that a guy with your sensibilities hurts pretty quick. After all, you have the greatest sensibilities with your sensitive friends as well. Greetings to McMaster and Kelly.

Also, i was done with you anyway. Tata.

Late to the party but I just finished the podcast and had to mention the scavenging obviously going on in Sid's room in Toy Story since no one else used it. It's a bit on the crafty/Macgyvery side but I still think it counts.

This is such a good point, Dingus. Close to zero percent of people who see violence in movies ever go out and kill someone, but most of us have relationships, and it would be naive to suppose the stories and other media we consume have no effect on the way we conduct ourselves in our relationships.

I think the danger of consuming violent media, if there is one, is the possibility that we become callus about real-world violence or get a false sense that we understand violence (like people who think watching Zero Dark Thirty gives them an understanding of how bad torture is and base their opinions about whether it's ever justified on that supposed understanding).

Bye.

I'll look for instances of sand in my anime collection when I get home from work today!

It's not the first time a comic book movie delves into weightier themes. I haven't seen Batman very Superman yet, so I can't speak to how it handles its themes. I'm just noting that Batman is explicitly quoting the Cheney doctrine.

(Although having seen Snyder's previous work and read the reviews, I have an idea what my reaction would be. Hence why I haven't seen it.)

Well, I'm a guy who likes to get things right, and I also think that Miyazaki's recurring interest in flight (especially Porco Rosso, the secret masterpiece of his movies, and The Wind Rises, his proxy biography of his father the WW2 aeronautics manufacturer) makes it fun to see the kind of real-life planes that he (presumably) likes.

My local dollar theater closed down recently. Huge bummer. Never take your dollar theater for granted!

Scavenging is to re-purpose material from other's discarded items. This discounts Iron Man as Downey's captors had obviously not discarded the missile. However, Scavenging can still be illegal, so in the Venn diagram overlap of 'scavenging' and 'illegal activities' you will find the motion picture Fight Club. And with that, MechaStreisand was defeated.

About pronouncing "Nausicaa" in "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" - The first vowel of the double "a" should be pronounced long and the second "a" should be pronounced short. It's a Greek word (Nausicaa is the name of a princess in Homer's Odyssey), and so I'd go by that Greek pronunciation.

Think of a word like "cooperation" - You don't pronounce the double "o" together like "coop" (ie, chicken coop), you pronounce each of the two vowels separately; the first one long, the second short. Same thing is going on in Nausicaa.

As for the significance of the name.... I don't know. Haven't actually watched that one :(

Also: thanks for putting me off Batman v Superman entirely! I was going to give it a go, but jesus it sounds abysmal. Everything I've heard about it before you guys just made it sound like a bad comic book movie; now I know it's a bad movie entirely.
