Quakecon 2012 videos

So first we have the famous JC keynote. Some people may have watched it already

But there are more interesting videos. These panels

The Game of Making Games, about game design and production. It features Todd Howard (Bethesda Game Studios), Jens Matthies (MachineGames), Raphael Colantonio (Arkane Studios), and Ted Price (Insomniac Games).

VR Insanity, about VR of course. With the Oculus Rift dude, JC and Michael Abrash from Valve!

Celebrating id Modding’ panel from QuakeCon 2012. Jonathan Wright (id Software) who you might know from his Quake mods, the Zeus bot and Cujo [2nd from the right], JP LeBreton, Double Fine Productions [2nd from the left], Brendon Chung (Blendo Games) [left], Moderation by Justin Blankenship (Hit Detection) [right]

And the final duel of Quake Live

Those commentated deathmatch videos were fun, especially 3 and 4. I’ve never watched anything like that before.

Yeah the Quake Live videos were great. Usually the pros play the game controlling the map, with a very defensive game, but in the videos they are also lots of moments of great offensive plays.

I wish I’d noted timestamps when watching the keynote since he talked about lots of interesting topics. But the biggest takeaway is he’s more excited about VR than he has been about anything graphics related for years.

Maybe over the next 3-5 years VR will start living up to some of the potential first dreamed of back in the '90s.
